I just removed the excess metal around the X1900XT exhaust, not only the mesh but also a bit of the backplate, there's a overlap from the white part of the blower. see pic of area removed

why would you completely void your warentee (i'm guessing!) for such a seemingly pointless mod??

I'd imagine that if your card goes **** up (like a fair few 1900xt's seem to be) that you'll be screwed when it comes to getting a replacement...???

What's the point of doing that  It's not like it's helping the airflow or anything.A very expensive pointless mod imo

Why should the warranty be void? I have done nothing to the card itself. It's like saying fitting car speakers into the parcel shelf (cutting holes) will invalidate a car's warranty. Of course it won't. It's not like I cut the card in two. Anyway you could say any non standard CPU or videocard, chipset cooler voids your warranty. Anyway if it does fail I would dispute that, or get another backplate.

"Madness" is a bit much..
Updated pic. Dunno if it's me but could be a bit quieter. ;) I did reduce air resistance.

Modding the cooler in anyway voids warranty.

TBH there is not really any air resistance with those metal fins in place.

Either your a very rich or just bored with to much time on your hands.

Not much point IMO

but each to their own :p

Wow! Why not 'go to work' on removing all the 'excess' metal from your components/case... That'd be an awesome mod... Behold the PC with No excess metal!

What you reduced the air resistance how? Is your case flying around your house or summin.

But on a more serious note thats one extreme mod, thats should improve its overclocking potential loads. nice one

**(THIS IS A SECRET MESSEGE AND IS NOT TO BE READ BY squiffy: WHY THE HELL HAS HE DONE THAT )**

basically, people who change the coolers on their cpu or video card, can easily put things back to the way they were as if nothing had ever changed, and so if something should go wrong, no questions are asked when it comes to RMA time.

Obviously the chances are that your card will live a long and healty life, but i'd guess you'll have trouble selling it on. And there's no way you'll get an RMA on it.

Wow, award for one of the most pointless mods ever.

the stock cooler runs a high pressure squirrel cage fan so small obstrictions like that make no diff at all.

Also, better look after that card now, thats a lot of money you now dont have the right to RMA now.

'Yes when I put my hand at the back of the case near my 2 Crossfired 1900's, I too can feel those little bars disturbing the flow of air'. Anyone notice the Emporers New Set of Temperatures attached to the pictures on the first post????

Exactly.............

Ahh come on lads,

the bloke thought he would share his mod with us, an all ya done is rip it apart lol.

It is a bit of a pointless mod, but congrats on voiding ya warranty.

:p

Stop That! You're cutting me up!

On a more serious note, it's better to have a fan feeding cool air into the inlet of the stock cooler, it knocks a few degrees off the temps, and keeps the memory cool too. Without risking a voided warranty (most companies can get picky when they want to). In logic with this thread though you could always buy an extra 1900xtx and use the cooler off that for the rma...........
