Cutaway mod X1900XT

It's not really going to void his warranty as he could easily replace the part he cut. It's that little bracket that you screw to the case to keep the GFX card still.

I dunno, if it's avaialble off the shelf for the 1900's, the dvi outputs would need to have the holes in the right place, it's a dual card, so that's all one piece, this grilled area is not seperate form the area around the dvi out...............

To be honest I have seen a lot of pointless mods out there which poeple have praised and those they have flamed. In the end its down to the individual and if they like it you should be happy for them.

I say well done, do what you feel and enjoy modding your kit.

King.

No-one is aiming any mal-intent, I think you have to be careful if you're placing mods which make little difference in performance (seeing that it is a cooler mod) other than your own satisfaction on public forums. People will question the point, in terms of aesthetics, functionality and improvements over the stock system. I think the point in this case is that, there seems to be little difference in keeping or removing the fins..........

The latter posts have all been personal amusment rather than flaming Squiffy, I'm sure he sees the funny side of some of the replies,

happy modding

Best regards.

Modifying the Exhaust side of the Cooler shows a greater understanding of a cooling system than You Peasants realise, 1.5-2 times the size of the air inlet would be ideal, but every little bit will help

Take it you couldn't think of a way of making that point that didn't result in calling people "Peasants", which I'm fairly certain is frowned upon in polite circles....

If you're happy with it squiffy, then that's all that really matters. Can't say that I'd have bothered, but I'm not quite obsessive enough about airflow to get into that game.

You are totally correct, I Just had to say it in Squiffy's defence, sure not everybodys replys were below the humor threshold !
Sorry

Sorry
However your point in Squiffy's defence isn't really fruitful. How can the removal of a few tiny bits of metal like that help? The only way it would is if there was a powerful fan enough to make it make a difference. That fan isn't so removing the slats will do nothing as there will not be sufficient air pressure to cause turbulence to make that difference. I'm sorry if that isn't explained well but it improves airflow by most likely less that 1%.

I just read through this post and I am nearly crying from laughing, I don't mean that in a bad way or to be rude, but this was just a funny post.
LOL

If You had an X1900xt and looked closely You would see quite a poor Miss-match between the cooler outlet and the grill...You assume he is just talking about a few thin verticle strips that's not the case !

Hopefully You now understand the Guy is Switched on and certainly did not deserve the response he got

As to the Gains, moving air streams are quite complex and if that obstruction turned out to be in higher velocity part of the stream we could be talking nearer to a 20% Flow improvement
What that translates in core temp no one ever even asked the Guy !

its just like cutting out the fan grills on your case.

although this mod is not likely to improve the cooling by much if any, it does invalidate the warranty :(
if possible, it might have been a better idea to just twist them so they are less restrictive ?

I have an X1800XT which uses the same cooler IIRC. You do realise that the grill is an exhaust and not an intake? As such, there is very little air pressure there not to mention that the cooler (plastic bit) doesn't quite reach the backplate so hot air can just escape at the sides and top. This may escape into the case, but how much does so and how much of a difference is the cutaway really making? Not enough to make up for the complete loss of warranty I'm afraid, nowhere even close in fact.

I have 2 of the 1900's in Crossfire, I can verify that the exhaust pressure is nowhere near a level that would benefit from the removal of those little slats. The theory of less resistence may be sound, in this case it's out of context, hence the funny replies, especially from owners of the 1900's.............

that was one of the first points I made, had he found lower temps he surley would have been excited enough to post them, after all he did post the 'mod'. It's an April fool................
