There’s a great review on Steam

Basically says it’s like a McDonald’s burger.

Looks nothing like the picture but still tastes ok.

That's a good summary. Unless you have a PS4 or an Xbone or one of the numerous combinations of PC hardware and software that results in Cyberpunk 2077 being bugged to unplayability. Then it's like a McDonald's burger that's been dropped on the floor, trodden on, picked up, put back in the box and handed to you.

i just started playing this last week after preordering and even preloading lol. i was actually really enjoying it (apart from the driving) but its being spoiled as my cpu is looking as if its on its way out (bsod and hardware errors). i originally thought ram but the new stuff i bought fails memtest too so looking like the controller maybe? as i tested all the slots individually and got errors every time. total bummer.

sorry for going off topic.

I think it's fair. The game was sold as being far more than it is. CDPR created fake footage, lied about features, etc. CDPR even sold the game on platforms it didn't really run on, which is a new low even for the game industry. Then there are the issues with the game itself, which is bugged to the extent of being literally (and yes, I do mean literally and not "I am a stupid liar who says literally when they mean figuratively") unplayable on some PCs for unknown reasons. Then there's the very poor UI. The very poor implementation of driving. The ridiculously bad implementation of police, which was clearly knocked up in a couple of days and hastily stuck on as an afterthought. The almost total lack of meaningful choices. And the UI, which is bad enough to warrant mentioning twice. The same key to crouch/stand and to skip dialogue, for example. It's bad enough that they did it at all, but they made it mandatory. That sort of thing is a huge step backwards - games from 30 years ago had complete user-definable keybinding! Make a game in which crafting is a big part...and implement the crafting part of the UI very badly. Make a game in which inventory management is a big part...and implement the inventory in a way that's barely adequate when it isn't bugged.

Anyone who bought the game thinking it would be what CDPR said it was would be extremely disappointed.
Anyone who bought the game thinking it would be well made would be very disappointed.

But people who bought the game with no idea what CDPR were falsely claiming the game was and who are sadly used to the substandard game-making that is now the norm might not be disappointed.

I had fun playing the game. But it's seriously flawed and it's nowhere near being the game CDPR were claiming to be selling. I didn't see any of CDPR's claims until after I'd be playing the game for a bit. Jaded and cynical though I am, I was still a bit surprised at how deceitful CDPR had been. If I was on a jury deciding whether or not CDPR were guilty of fraud regarding Cyberpunk 2077, I don't know what my verdict would be. Fraud or a severe case of sleazy misrepresentation of a product that falls short of being fraud? I'm not sure.

The promise is there. Cyberpunk 2077 might have been a great game with another couple of years of development and some mods to fix some of the UI shortcomings. The sequel might be a great game.
Out of interest, bugs aside, what did claim they claim / show that was missing from the final version?

For one, competent AI; they've said that the issues are down to a "bug", which is a lie in itself as it has been shown that they were actually due to developmental shortcuts / workarounds, in order to expedite the release.

One thing that Angilion didn't mention in that post - quite a few items in the game, which have descriptions which infer they work to upgrade some attribute of your character when equipped are purely cosmetic to the point I'd consider it fraudulent rather than just unfinished/buggy - some of them there is literally no code behind, others only partially work.

Additionally to that while personally I had no expectations the game which influencers were pushing it as, via CDPR controlling them either directly or indirectly by only allowing them limited access, etc. to the bits they wanted them to see, is not the game which you will actually get to play if you buy it.

I think the hype on this was just too much for CD Projekt Red and they mess it up.

I'm not sure it is so much they messed up - I think they got to a point where they were basically told to get a game together and out the door - it feels like they've got all these bits of a different (bigger) vision for the game that they've had to put together in some kind of working order to get it out the door.

Personally I managed to make it work for me, I've had some good enjoyment from the game, but that doesn't mean it isn't in a totally unacceptable state, far from the vision they've been peddling directly and indirectly and that those involved in the development/publishing of it haven't engaged in dubious behaviour.

Yeah there was so much build up to the game that I deliberately avoided most of it and went in to the game kind of blind. I wasn't disappointed with the game at all really (apart from there being only 1 female doll to solicit :D), perhaps too many similar side quests and not enough main missions but on the whole I really enjoyed my time with it.

theres a wall you can destroy that was clearly only done in one place to hype the game on the trailers.

yes it's in the game but it was clearly only done for the trailers to make it look like the game had destructible environments

TBH I was a bit surprised in that respect - I had no feel for the game, didn't buy into the hype, generally wasn't really sure what the game was trying to be or would be and didn't think I'd want to play it at all but I managed to get ~100 hours out of it and enjoyed a good bit of that.

My biggest gripe actually is the state of the key binding situation as I had to mess about with config files manually to get something reasonably playable and there obviously has been no thinking process or effort made to implement that properly in the game and what has soured me most from buying another CDPR game is that there was no priority to address that in the first couple of patches.

It is still not an acceptable situation however and if I had tried to approach the game differently than that of a shooter I'd have probably been far more disappointed as well - the state of cyberware, etc. in the game is poor at best.

From what I can see the engine does actually have extensive destruction capabilities though I'm not sure how complete - but personally I don't think it really adds anything to the game anyhow even if it is yet another example of CDPR inferring the game would be something that the as sold game isn't.

5 days with no posts, you'd have thought the "game of the millennia" would retain a bit more buzz for longer than this. Ah well

See below, it's the most accurate representation of what's happening 2 months after the release and, with no new additions from CDPR yet only a small amount of "bug" fixes, this isn't going to change anytime soon -

It’s a single player game, it’s not surprising that people have played it and completed it with little reason to go back as yet.

Just finished my 3rd run through. This was Male Corpo V only doing the Main missions whilst sticking to his Corpo identity (Business choices rather than personal ones etc) with no side gigs meaning no Judy, no Panam, no Rogue etc and, because of that, on the rooftop where you make your choice for an ending you can ONLY choose the Arasaka ending, which being a Corpo V was what I planned to do anyway.

It only took 14 hours this time and, if thats all any games journalist or a "skimed through it" player did, I can see why people think the game is very thin. You really need to do every side mission to fully immerse yourself into the game to make the endings more meaningful and impactful (my first playthrough took 120+hrs IIRC).

Next up is Street Kid V doing the Rogue ending, then Nomad V doing the Panam ending then I'll put the game to the side until the new patches/DLC arrive bringing more content.

Is This now worth picking up. have all the major bugs now been fixed.

No. But it might be worth picking up if you didn't see the claims being made for the game because the degree of bugginess varies wildly from PC to PC. I played it for ~100 hours without any game-breaking bugs. If you're expecting the game that was advertised, don't buy it because it doesn't exist. The game that is sold is not the game that was advertised. This wasn't a hype train. This was a hype spaceship with warp drive. But the game itself, if you have no prior expectations of it, is quite good. If it works.
