*** Cyberpunk 2077 ***

Same was said for numerous other AAA games who had big fanfare and big hype the last 5 years.
The developer has a great pedigree. everyone of there previous games great, i will eat my mouse mat if its anything but great.

The Witcher
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Why I am the only one who sees a major flop here?

I very much doubt it'll be a flop....however, whether it'll be a 95% "it's the second coming" greatest thing of all time remains to be seen. There's a lot of hype, and I believe many journalists weren't overly impressed with the shooting mechanics they saw behind closed doors. I'm just hoping we'll be seeing some incredible story/charachter/world building like we saw in The Witcher, because at the moment, games that focus on those elements are few and far between.

As far as I see it the problem is the hype. With many recent games which were considered "flops" they aren't objectively 'bad' games but were so overhyped that they were generally considered to be.

Currently this looks like a great game and coming off the back of the GOTY Witcher 3 is always going to be difficult to match. As it gets closer to launch the hyper train is going to go into overdrive. The developer will do well to manage players expectations pre-launch.

Because this is a new genre for CDPR, I'm expecting quality akin to Witcher 1-2. I think it will take a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 before they have Witcher 3 level of polish.

Witcher 3 = the most boring game I have ever played in my life and the story........ after every 15 minutes of gameplay, you get 30 minutes of pointless rambling/cutscene dialogue, I remember one of the side quests being about helping some lady find her cooking pot or something daft like that LOL

This on the other hand actually looks interesting.

Why I am the only one who sees a major flop here?

I have to say I'm not feeling the game - at least from what has been shown off it seems a bit of a mishmash of ideas with gameplay mechanics that sound amazing on paper but get in the way of gameplay in reality, albeit a work in progress but inconsistencies between how things work in one demo to the next seemingly depending on what any one designer deemed "cool" at any one time, etc. and too many things that are "cool" and introduced once as if some fundamental gameplay concept but unlikely you'll actually use them outside of the immediate context ever again.

Some of the more recent gameplay I've seen depending heavily on hitting specific combos over and over with little potential for finding your own way through which for a game with a premise like this is LOL.

I hope I'm wrong but I think people are fanboying a bit based on what they want the game to be based on some cool bits showing off what they want to see and overlooking the rest.

Better be good just spent 3.5k building a pc to play it maxed out, then probably another grand for the 3080 ti super duper rtx xyz blah blah :)

It's quite probably impossible for this game to flop (financially) just based on the pre-orders at this point, while I'm not going to make the mistake of over-hyping the game I will say that CD Projekt Red are one of the very few developers I have faith in.

Also worth noting that a third of pre-orders are on GoG, which afaik is owned by CD Projekt, meaning they wont be paying a cut to the likes of Steam/Epic for those sales.

@Rroff has put it more mildly than me.
Over the last 8 years, we saw many games with a lot of hype, a lot of nice looking videos, and pre-order running on the "hype" a year before release.
The trend is there, in addition to all of them had not a single other information outside the videos and developers own words, except some negative feedback from "insiders".

And I am not talking only about the last 2 BF games, DIV2, CIV6, Imperator, Anthem, Destiny, SW BF1 & 2, Mass Effect Andromeda or (heh) Star Citizen.....
The list is long unfortunately. And Witcher 3 was the worst of the series. The most boring pile of.......

We very much disagree in that regard.

The difference between Cyberpunk and the other games you've listed, at least on my end, is that Cyberpunk actually has a developer that hasn't totally went down the pan. As I said, I'll keep reasonable expectations and let the game speak for itself without giving into the hype. I think it's self defeating to raise your expectations for a product so high that it can't possibly meet them, you've got to wonder how many people have ruined things for themselves doing so. That said, I have a hell of a lot more faith in CD Projekt than I do pretty much any big developer as of 2019.

Honestly, Bioware used to be one of my favourite companies and now I wouldn't touch anything they put out with a twenty foot pole wrapped in an extra safe Durex. So believe me I know that companies can and will change over time, but while I don't think people should over-hype a product I also don't think it's fair to unreasonably pan a developer on the merits of what other studios have done.
