cycle to work scheme

Our company is hesitant to take part in this scheme, I believe they've actually turned people down. Something to do with if you leave the company early and the bike is still their property etc.

My company is part of the Evans ride to work scheme. In the faq is says

If you leave the company or retire, your bike becomes a taxable benefit. The balance remaining on the price of your bike will be deducted from your final net salary"

Got me a Specialized Vita Sport with a load of extra gubbins I wanted, total value incl. VAT was £612.90. Paid about £44 per month pre-income-tax off my pay packet for a year, so in effect I paid only £420 in the end, something like that.

I'll be paying £30.65 to exit the agreement and take the bike for my own, which is 5% of the original £612.90.

They can't tell you exactly what they'll charge you at the end, only what they 'might' charge you - because then it becomes a hire-purchase scheme and the loophole where the company can claim VAT back on the bike is closed.

I heard that Specialized where not really that good for the money?

where from ? they are probably one of the best value for money out there

infact most the big companys compete with each other so closely that you cant go wrong with either

I did this. They took 500 quid from my wage over a year and I was given a £1000 voucher.

Put some money towards it myself and got a sweet bike.

Only drawback is it had to be from Evans Cycles but they priced matched so it wasn't too bad.

the set back with our scheme is that you can only get the vouchers in January, and you can only buy a bike from Halfords! boo

Too late now :)

I got my bike a few weeks ago. To be honest, I started cheap, as I didn't want to wait until next year.

With my plan being to upgrade to a higher spec bike if I really get into riding. Didn't want to spend a grand on a bike and then never use it.

I already want one with carbon forks, before my wrists turn to dust :)

been looking at the Specialized Allez, anyone user one of these?
I'm planning to get a 2011 Specialized Allez Sport 18 in November when myCycle scheme renewal becomes available.
They are expensive compared to Focus bikes but I'm a bit of a Specialized fan and won't be seen on anything else :)

not sure what my budget is atm.
need to work out how much it would be a month on the scheme first!

My employer has also declined any attempt to try and cajole them into joining a cycle to work scheme as they refuse to offer a changing area/showers. And all I here from my brother is how they were throwing in ipods last year to entice people to sign up (he lives and works in Bristol whereas I am still in the industrial revolution in the Midlands it seems)

we don't get ipods
or showers in my area (I could get showered in the other block but it would take another 20-25 mins to get down there and back! plus shower time!)
rides only a mile or so so I don't get sweaty!

thought I'd give everyone an update on this,
fat cats want to claw back more at the end of the hire period
gone from 5% to 18%+!
anyone experience this?
