My flights certainly weren't that cheap (went via turkey for the better airlines). To be honest the traffic might not be so bad off the main roads. There were hardly any cars at all up in the mountains.

I've seen London to Bishkek via Istanbul go as low as £350 with Pegasus I think. You can sometimes get good deals to Osh as well.

Haha yeah been going awhile now. Just got to Belgrade 3 hours ago. Glad you like the blog! I'm proud of the quality of some of the writing but other bits I've just had to hammer out quickly when I can so I don't get too far behind with it.

Coming home for Xmas from Istanbul for 5 weeks, during which time I'll be getting 10 days warm weather in Ethiopia and Somalia. Then in Feb I cross Turkey and, fingers crossed, go through Iran. Fingers are crossed as I'm awaiting the result of my visa application. After that the plan is;

Iran
Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan
Kyrgyzstan
China

May do Tajikistan as well based on money and time of year.
