Cyclist Assaults Lorry Driver

Just going back to that... another incident of a cyclist. Maybe the driver never looked in his mirror before opening the door, maybe he did. Why wasn't the cyclist paying attention, If it was a genuine accident, you would be very apologetic and do everything you can to help the cyclist and make sure they're okay. Another prime example of cyclists erratic behavior.

What? The initial accident had nothing to do with the resulting injuries though? That was just a bloke thumping another bloke.

As for the cyclist "not paying attention" - what has that got to do with a car door being opened in the cyclists path? Was he supposed to be telepathic? I bent a car door all the way back to the wing when a passenger did it to me after the driver stopped at some traffic lights with a cycle lane down the side - believe me, the driver wasn't very apologetic in that instance, even when the police arrived.

I don't get this argument. It's a straight up criminal offence to open a vehicle door where it 'endangers' someone. That means as little as a cyclist or other driver needing to take evasive action.

By having an opinion? Yeah okay. Cyclists should either contribute to use the road or at least take a test (just like any other motorist) Half of these ridiculous incidents wouldn't occur if they could actually use the roads correctly, and also got rid of their "the roads are designed for me" attitude.

Why do you expect perfection from any human being, cyclist or not?

Some people are just simply too thick to properly assess all the arguments and come up with a reasonable conclusion. I just accept that there are people like this rather than requiring them to pay extra to use the roads, because they're so thick they probably do all kinds of thick and annoying things on the road, and contribute less to society in the form of income taxes too.

This story really isn't anything to do with cyclists, it's just a road rage incident.

Because cyclists apply it 'on a regular basis' it's therefore appropriate to reverse the criticism? Yeah, that makes loads of sense. Because the people I disagree with say it, then I should say the same to them. No Dolph, just no.

By road tax people mean vehicle excise duty, stop trying to be clever guys

Being correct is trying to be clever ? It's an important distinction, because 'road tax' implies that it's a charge to use the road. Vehicle excise duty is nothing to do with this, it's a charge for emissions not for road dilapidation.

Cyclists are on average richer, healthier, and bigger spenders than non-cyclists, thereby contributing more to the economy and being less of a burden on the health services than fat, unhealthy, stupid and poor motorists. So maybe cyclists should insist that thick motorists people pay a fat / thick subsidy? That way I would have to pay less for them to visit diabetes and heart clinics during their lives.

Oh how I love generalisations!

This thread :D cyclist threads always turn childish, just like cyclists, actually kids who cycle are nearly always more considerate then their adult counterparts.

Pretty ******* special blaming the driver, while it might be valid to level criticism of the company for using those routes (reality is in the UK there sometimes isn't much option) the drivers have relatively little choice in the matter and most won't be enthusiastic about driving a lorry down a narrow road.

Wheres the like button lemonade!!! ^ :D Thats cause the majority of children these days take part in a cycle awareness course, hence they have some road sense.

Road or Public highway ?

Concerning the incident... Lorry driver took his eye off opponent when getting back in cab... Opponent cowardly slammed door onto lorry driver, banging his head and rendering him sparko.

Coward is Coward. In Australia they used to call that a "King-Punch" but it's now being referred to as "Coward-Punch"

Either way.. "Sucker-Blow".

Regarding trucks & narrow roads... How does one think the food gets collected from the farms ?

Transporter beam ?

^ Actually they do, schools round here do 1 week cycle awareness courses around twice a school season where the classes go out on bikes with a cycle instructor. Hopefully the next generation of cyclists will have proper etiquettes and abide by rules.

If you're replying to me where can I go and pay Road Tax?

Just google road tax and it still brings you to VED. It says road tax, yes I'm fully aware "road tax was scrapped" but the majority of people you talk to would commonly say it as road tax or car tax  You're just trying to bump your ego and IQ by trying to be politically correct. As I say roads are designed for motorists not cyclists, don't like it? then go find your designated CYCLIST route. Plenty of them...Councils seem to spend more money on cyclists than motorists, a prime example is a local cycle track that cost in excess of £900k + here in York, guess what? No cyclists use it!

I know you've embarrassed yourself enough on this thread, but are you blaming cyclists for not using the path? Just want to clarify.

When cyclists start paying road tax, then they should have a say. Majority ARE **** tbh.

Ahh what a wonderful world it would be if we could buy rights.

Anyway, the story should read "idiot assaults someone", the fact that the idiot was a cyclist and the someone was a lorry driver is pretty much irrelevant.
