Cyclists Beware

show me the speed readout on the video that shows he is speeding, then i'll buy your theories. On your logic I'll say he wasn't speeding and you need to watch the video again once the effects of the crack have worn off. I can do this all day

No need you already made a fool of yourself, a car doing 20-30mph does not send a 12+stone (at least) person that distance through the air.

If you want to hint at being this way all day I will simply report you for derailing a thread.

He was doing more like 70-80 to launch someone that far and high. To throw someone like that takes a LOT of force.

A 30mph hit is easily survivable with modern cars, unless you are a small kid.

looks to be speeding but i'd doubt 70~80 unless those BMWs have a much more impressive braking distance than i'm aware of. The guy does look to have slip-streamed out from behind that passing car and cut straight across the road instead of moving to the dotted line first though.

AutoExpress quote the M135i at 43.7m to brake from 70mph to 0mph, 31.8m from 60mph.

Looking at Google Maps, the stopping distance looks to be somewhere from 35 to 45m, so somewhere between 50 to 70mph would be entirely believable i think.

Completely different but yesterday I was doing 50 in a 50 and around a bend were two people walking on the road.. luckily was no oncoming traffic

Show me where he mentioned conditions (or being above the speed limit) and if you want to take it up further with him make a thread on it or take to PM.

Do you even drive, you do know cars can go round bends at that given speed limit on that said road (a corner would be different and no doubt be 30MPH limit).

He went around a bend and had to use the oncoming lane to avoid pedestrians in his lane. It was lucky there was no oncoming traffic. "Luck" is not something you're meant to rely on to navigate a bend. Pedestrians are allowed on roads (but even if they weren't it could easily have been horse riders, cyclists, animals, etc.. there instead). The only factor that needs to change to eliminate the luck in that scenario is his speed. There's countless countryside bends that are NSL but are only safe at 30. It's literally in the highway code that you should drive to the conditions and not to the maximum limit.

I don't know how to make this easier for you.

Hitting the guy would have also shaved a lot of speed off instantly.

If it was a BMW or Audi driver probably going at least 20-30mph over the limit like most do that drive them, so the cyclist misjudged and paid with his life. The driver was clearly speeding so fled the scene.

Before any Audi or BMW drivers in here get triggered the majority of those cars in my area drive like complete tools with no regard to the safety of others.

I did say waaaaay back in the thread that it looked like he was doing about 60 in a 30, glad we've all caught up now! :p

I must say I do find it quite shocking how many people in here are happily trying to pin all or most of the blame on the cyclist who was killed when hit by a car likely travelling twice the speed limit. You should all be ashamed of yourselves quite frankly.

Its all a bit of fun in Motors when we make japes about it being the cyclists fault and this and that, but this is different... The footage is sickening.

The driver is to blame for speeding, at 30 mphs he'd have been able to reduce speed to a point where injuries were very minor.

Maneuver performed by the cyclist was dangerous though; and should have had lights on the bike.

A bike without lights or lots of high vis gear is essentially invisible at night time to someone inside a car.

Yeah car driver had zero margin for error - absolute stupidity.

Cyclist doesn't seem to take into account other traffic when pulling around the parked cars, etc. never mind cutting across the corner seemingly expecting other road users to adjust around him.

Combination of those aspects and there was only going to be one outcome.

I only just clocked his age I assumed he was in his 80's as a "great grandfather"... Not 59!

My Dad is in his 50's and I hope to God he isn't even a grandfather seeing as I'm an only child, and my great grandparents are long dead. I'm talking 20 years in the ground.

I only knew 2 of my great grandparents and one died when I was like 6 the other when I was about 7-8. That was over 30 years ago.
