Cyclists Jumping red lights!

: /

This video featured in the last "OMG CYCLISTS R UTTER RETARDED!" thread not a couple of months ago.

Thread summary of previous and current one? People are dumb.

For a change lets not have another cyclist thread this month please, thanks.

Just read a few comments on the daily mail website. People are saying the cyclist should have accepted the fine. Are some people completely idiotic today. If the police had pulled you over whilst driving a car and couldn't define the law that they were arresting you for then they have no right to arrest you.

How can we have police on the streets these days who fail to know what laws to arrest people with. It angers me that my tax money pays his wages when he can't do his job properly. He should be disciplined and sent back to do his training again.

I sense deja vue. ;)

Simple solution, jump lights get shot, ride on pavement get shot, get snotty with police get bike crushed. :p:D

It makes me laugh how many people are negatively rating comments on the DM where people are saying the copper shows how bad the police force is etc.

This thread again. Already?
Now, whilst it's not good that the PC didn't know the law, it really annoys me when cyclists break all the road laws, and think they can get away with it.
I have had to break hard to avoid hitting cyclists who break red lights on a number of occasions.
I cycle for my commute and on my 4 miles I count between 1 and 4 cars jumping red lights on average every day. It has never been zero. I have had to brake hard to avoid hitting cars and vans who jump red lights on a number of occasions.

Iit depends on the cyclist.. some old noob/women/gayer who cant physically handle a bicycle they shouldn't do it. I don't see a problem in it I'm extremely aware and in the 10 years I have been riding bikes on the road I've never had a close miss never mind a accident from doing not so legit manoeuvres such as running a red light. It depends on the rider and weather they maintain there bike properly and know how to stop effectively also this is not enough i once was nailing it round a left hand corner and some idiot on a moped was on the wrong side of the road on a blind corner, i knew my brakes properly manged to slow down round a corner and then jam my foot on the curb and hop up(cannot bunny hop at velocity around corners bro)

edit: it also depends on the road and what you can see etc.

This video is really old.
Is the daily mail creating articles from old news or have we time travelled a few months?
Also, yes he was being a **** but the police should know the law and he clearly didn't.

pft get that 3-4 times a day.. odd that people dont realize the risk they are putting the cyclist at.. :) if a cyclist hit them it wouldn't be more than a dent if you hit a cyclist it could cost them their life

Just out of interest I do something similar to this , if the light is red I just jump onto the cycle path and then back on the road once passed the junction.

I don't get this - maybe as I'm not a cyclist myself so I'm not trying to give any negative attitude, but is there any reason as to why some cyclists will stay on the road instead of using the empty cycle lanes next to them? I realise some cycle lanes on roadsides are a nightmare and are actually quite dangerous to ride in but I've seen it numerous times where there's been a perfectly flat and smooth cycle lane on pavements too. Just wondering if there's any specific reason for it as I see it so often I must be missing something.

When I was 13 doing my paper round, was on the path along side a VERY busy main road.

PCSO stopped me and said i'd get a 30 quid fine if i'm seen on the path again.

If your on a racing bike and going at 30mph then yes, get on the road, but I know i'd rather have my future children riding on the path!

Probably the drains, or all the crap that is flicked to the side of the road (stones, glass etc).

There are no cycle lanes where I live and the drains are so low compared to the rest of the road it is impossible to cycle over them so I give them a wide birth.

P.S I drive to work from November - > end of Feb (Too dangerous in the dark to cycle on such a busy road).
