Cyclists!!!

Interesting, but it's still illegal.

The you're was bold for a reason, too ;)

I dont care less why it was bold. If correcting peoples spelling makes you feel better, knock yourself out.

I was out cycling today around the country parks, coming home i came to a road with a width restriction and i was directly following a car through while another waiting to come the other way, as i proceeded to go through (i had right of way) the car waiting thought he would push me out of the way, he cursed at me through the window so i shouted that i had right of way.
Must feel big bullying cyclists with the prospect of getting run other.

Calm down dear. No one is objecting to cyclists using their right of way. It's just those that ride illegally, eg on pavements or through red lights.

My main problem with cyclists isn't the cyclists themselves. It's the idiotic car drivers who think its their god given right to overtake them no matter whether there is oncoming traffic.
The country roads I use to get to the office are popular with cyclists and I reckon at least twice per month I nearly have a head on with car that's overtaking on a corner.
Oh yeah, guess who they swerve towards when they see the green Jag barrelling towards them. Yup, the poor cyclist.

The same is very true around here, too. My daily commute takes me across two quite long and perilous country stretches with a few turns and a large number of blind hills. The number of people that you see overtaking cyclists on those roads at points that simply aren't safe at all (especially approaching the crest of the hills) is mind-boggling.

Not to mention the frustration when some jerk is right on your rear bumper giving it the aggro because you've slowed to wait until you can actually SEE what's coming.

I cycle and there are bad cyclists just as there are bad drivers - i drive aswel and when on my bike i try to be as least obstructive as possible to vehicles on the road. Sometimes you have to move to the middle of the road early to make your right turn as otherwise you just wouldnt get accross just as sometimes you have to ride further towards the middle of the road purely for your own safety - sometimes i think that drivers dont fully understand why cycles do what they do at times.
Having said that you also have to remember its the bad cyclists who are putting their lives at risk, if you hit them you get a scratch on your bumper they however could end up with broken bones or even dead.
I was on my bike a few days ago, a driver overtook me then realised he couldnt really get passed due to an oncoming car so he just forced me into the kerb and almost took me off my bike with his wing mirror - if you dont cycle you have no idea how frightening it is to have a car that close to you and you are quickly running out of room.
Anyway like already mentioned the old " cyclists are bad" has been done to death and there are bad drivers as much as there are bad cyclists as much as there are crazy pedestrians.

perhaps roads should be for motorised vehicles only - except for rural areas

oops - thats not a popular view I guess :) - but seriously its not really that safe for people to ride bikes on the road, you wouldn't use a scooter on the road, or run all the time on the road would you ?

on a serious note though - there is an easy way to address these issues

more police presence on the roads, and harsher fines and penalities for bad driving, and red light jumping. Cameras only give you so much

and I mean harsher penalties for both drivers and cyclists

cyclists should be able to have some licence style penalty as well as a financial one, as financial ones don't really put people off

as a car driver, with a clean licence (and a law abiding one I have to add) - do points scare/bother me - of course they do - does a financial penalty ? nope - not really - its a pain but nothing more.

If cyclists want to be treated like drivers, treat them like drivers! :D

I dont want to be treated like a driver when im on my bike, i ride considerately and i want to be treated like a cyclist. A cyclist that may well be injured or die if you hit them when you overtake and get too close just cos you've been held up for 30secs - in reality you probably haven't been delayed at all by the time you get to your destination.
A cyclist that may well fall of their bike as you drive past scaring the crap out of me sounding your horn and shouting abuse.
I want to be treated with respect and not a second rate citizen who some people treat like dog crap at times for no other reason than they are in their way for generally no more than seconds.

It's perfectly safe...

I would much rather have points on my (hypothetical) cycle license than a fine. What difference does it really make having points on your licence if you dont need insurance? You get 4-5 chances before you lose your licence as well.

Not all drivers are bad though. I was doing a race today on a narrow, twisty road so i was going faster than the car infront of me. He stopped and waved me through just as i caught him. Makes a nice change from the drivers who are determined to overtake cyclists even if they are riding at the (drivers) speed limit.

Everything is far too weighted in the favour of cyclists.

They jump lights and ride reckless with very little fear of being caught and even if they are, the penalties are pathetic and vastly un-enforceable.

Knock down a reckless cyclist in a car and you will be introduced to traffic police forensics. A cyclist knocks down a pedestrian on the path or causes a RTA and they will often ride freely away knowing they are not traceable.

I am not against cyclist but they are often their own worst enemies, jumping red lights and hoping on and off pedestrian area's then complaining about motorists.

I recently got knocked down by a car reversing which has damaged my foot and ankle for life. I have been compensated for my loss of earnings plus a tiny bit for my adjustment in life by the drivers insurance.

I could easily have been knocked down by a cyclist, I dread to think financially how I could have survived. The damage to me could have easily have been caused by a bike.

look at his other videos tells you all you need to know

the one shouting at someone on their mobile for instance, nothing to do with him, unless he is a cop

the one linked above though the car did wrong agreed - and if did hit him should have stopped

I don't put my foot down to catchup, then swear at, beep at etc every motorbike rider that undertakes me on the motorway - I'd be doing it all day if I did !

Nothing to do with him until that person knocks him off because he wasn't paying attention of course..
To be honest if I'm in the car I couldn't really give a toss if another driver had his head in the glove box or was on the phone, that's his look out.
However if I'm out on the bike and I got the chance to give someone some earache about being on the phone I would do.
I'm the vulnerable road user in that instance and it's up to me to look out for myself. If that means telling someone to get off the phone and concentrate on their driving, I will do so!

Millions of people run on roads and use scooters on the road

Only yesterday I saw one completely igore a red light. They seem to have their own little set of rules. So do motorcyclists too for that matter.

So do car drivers.

What with drinking coffee/shaving/make-up, speeding, not indicating, using the phone, turning round to look at the kids/dog/grandma, dithering, following the satnav blindly off a cliff, drink driving, smoking while driving need I go on?

Oh wait, stereotyping ahoy!

VED is irrelevant, but give me a single good reason why they should not have insurance?

Some like me do:) but as a driver too I sometimes get irritated by cyclists but that is ually down to me being in a bad mood or stressed from work and then me making a bad decision about overtaking them!
