Cyclists!!!!!

cyclists and horse riders too should have to undertake a basic form of training even similar in scope to the CBT for bikers,

They should also be required to have a minimum level of insurance to cover any injuries or damages to third parties and their property.

anyone disagree?

i'd also like to see a unique identifier issued for every cyclist horse rider same way motorised vehicles are identified. as it stands a cyclist could clip your car and bugger off with no consequences and no comeback for the other road user

They still don't pay road tax, so they shouldn't be on the road.

ok, as we "cant" pay road tax, how are we supposed to get to work, or enjoy the outdoors?
I don't cycle to work, but others are forced to, I cycle for enjoyment only, and im not allowed to cycle on the paths, so where should I be cycling to gain experience for road races and sportives ???

As an electrician, we have this document called BS7671:2011 It is non-statutory document, when prosecuting they will use this document to put you away. It would be up to you to defend yourself as to why you did not follow the guidance of this document such is the way these documents are worded this may or may not be easy to do depending on the circumstance's.

Yes, i agree with you.
I was making the point that these 2 guidelines (not laws):
1- Cyclists should ride in single file round bends and on busy roads
2- Cyclists should use roads instead of cycle paths if they ride faster than 18mph

Both guidelines should be followed.

I would actually love to pay road tax for my bike.
My cars are in a pretty high emmissions bracket and cost a load to tax so if everyone paid a flat rate for use of the roads i'd probably be a lot better off :p

There is a difference between the "amber gamble" and stopping at a red light before starting off again just because there is no traffic from the other roads.

I do this in the car late at night if i see that no ones about. better MPG by not completely stopping.(saving the planet and all that)

Most of the people in that vid are not doing anything wrong in my eyes. yer there's some people like the guy who nearly gets wiped out by the saab turning left and the guy at the end.
yes some cyclists do some dumb stuff but then some car/van drives do lots of dumb things so nbd.

It would just sit in the £0 tax/road fund licence bracket anyway... People that come out with dumb crap like they have no no car tax so they should not be on the roads is super dumb. do range rovers have more say on stuff compared to smart car dervs? (£350 tax vs £0)

mandatory tests the better.

For cyclists? really? good look trying to regulate that.

I like the link for the .guv site.. it says "You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement." a pavement is a very non specific thing and is not what you all think it is (tip its the road). There are also counter things that mean rules like this cannot stop you from doing things like travailing how ever you see fit.

TBH if they cycle on the side I still have to go fully into oncoming traffic to overtake so it doesn't actually matter if they're in the middle of the road missing potholes. I'd rather they just ****ed off altogether. Get a mountain bike and do some fun stuff in the woods. Quite why you'd want to ride on the UK roads is beyond me, they're dirty, full of potholes and full of 60 mph blocks of metal.

The one that really bugs me (happens a couple of times a day) is when i'm at a set of lights about to turn left (indicators on) and the cyclists pile up my left hand side so i can't turn. Even if i'm not stationary i've had them undertake me when i'm trying to do a left hand turn. Abit like in that shaming vid earlier in the thread.

I used to drive a long wheel base sprinter in central london a lot, had a tail lift, had a few cyclists catching a ride holding onto the back of it.

The worst ones are the ones where they are pretty much lying down with feet in the air, most have little flags but damn i can tell you they aren't the easiest things to spot in vans.

I think the poster is saying to reform it so all transport on the roads start paying 'Road Tax' and not the joke that is vehicle emissions. I'd be willing to put a 'Road Tax' disk on my bike as long as the roads were repaired so they didn't ruin my bikes. I went all the way down this road yesterday for the first time and I had to slow down to around 10 mph because of the state of the road.

why don't drivers just race on the track? I mean why do they need to drive to work? just walk jeez or use public transport eh ? ;)

WAAY to miss the point.. and that's why we have the problem of cyclists/vs/drivers is because people like you simply DON'T get it.

if its equal - which I agree it should be

then tie biking offences to driving licence (if they have one) - and/or increase fines to same offence if carried out in a car

I'm not saying they should pay road-tax - as you can argue its "green" -but should be subject to same rules/fines/and penalties as car drivers

You mean cycling offences been tied to a driving licence?
What so you can fine and or ban people from traveling on cycles?

Never ever ever going to happen.
Its a Human right to be able to travel how ever you like. (Walk/ride/blade/skate/board/run/jog/horse & cart...what ever and you could never restrict that in anyway.
Nest you will be saying you need a licence to have sex because its too dangerous because of STD's and you will need to be tested and have a licence to be able to do it or you get fined.

Hot summers day, cyclist I am in no rush to pass them:-

When they are as above. :D

great - I agree with what you are saying

lets ditch driving licences/points/fines then :)

and I said I thought they didn't need to pay -just like green vehicles

BUT I did say they should be licenced or tied to a generic driving licence

why shouldn't it be a "vehicle licence" that covers cars, bikes, and cycles ?
