So after doing some (hilariously bad) cycling in Holland I've discovered something.

Over there the cycle paths are basically a fully separate road network alongside but separate from the roads so they don't really mix with cars.

So much of what many cyclists say is needed here as much of the bad behaviour of cyclists is making sure they're safe on the roads or using the pavement because they want to be safe

Well what I found was even with their own bike only roads cyclists are ***** the locals on the old 40's style bikes are OK on the paths but refuse to stop at pedestrian crossings just ring their bell at people.

And the lycra clad crew when riding down the cycle lanes compelelty ignore the markings (they're 2 lanes like a road with a dotted line with traffic going both ways) and ride 4 abreast so 2 of them on the wrong side and force people out of the way.

What is it with the mentality of bicycle riders that they just think that any common sense shouldn't apply to them?

Although I will admit it's hilarious when they lycra crew come upon a scooter coming flying down (on the correct side) and they all have to try and dive back in behind each other

Oh it's this thread again, just the other day I had 2 cyclists side by side on a busy A road, was taking the biscuit tbh.

Gas them, gas them all.

To be fair I'm complaining about cyclists doing stuff on their own cycle "roads" that if you did in your car on a car road would have you in front of a judge for dangerous driving.

Yes a lot of them act like entitled idiots but then there are an awful lot of drivers who are equally selfish. Bottom line is people are often *****s on roads regardless of mode of transport.

Last Sunday I was driving on the A24 near Boxhill in Surrey, where the 2012 Olympic road cycle race was. A whole pelaton came out of a side street and blocked the dual carriageway for a time, causing cars and vans to slam on the brakes. Never seen anything like it, lucky no-one was hurt.

Cyclists play a vital role in the 21st Century: organ donors.

They must be encouraged to ride recklessly to keep our ageing population in spare parts.

Here we go again. The cyclists hate the motorists who hate them back and the pedestrians are ignoed by both. :p We need love and not hate... ;)

I cycle daily, 16 miles. I don't run red lights, I don't get aggressive with drivers, however the last time I was on the road (Friday) I had one white van driver scream at me in an attempt to startle me, and one land rover pass me so close that I nearly crapped myself (literally, with no exageration he was within two inches of my right arm). There's good and bad on both sides, rubbish cyclists need educating , as do rubbish motorists, I'd also be my left hairy one that the Venn diagram of those two groups shows significant cross overs.

Bad road users are bad road users, mode of transport is slightly irrelevant.

Endorphins and adrenalin does strange things to people. You see it in all forms of exercise - look at all the crazy stuff rock climbers, mountain bikers etc do.

As someone that cycles to work i can relate, myself i stick to the rules and am usually very considerate of other people. Not too long back when i was cycling on the road i saw some guy on the path, he didn't slow down towards a t junction and surprise surprise as he was about to cycle across the road a car pulled up to the end and he went straight into the side of it.... what i found even worse was he just shook it off and carried on biking... didn't even say sorry or talk to the driver.

Tefal - I don't think many people actually read your post, but saw the title and "auto-replied".

It all boils down to "some people are just *****" regardless of where they drive/cycle/walk etc :D

We have cycle paths here but still get cyclists on the dual carriage way, there must be something addictive in the car fumes

On my 2 mile commute home in my car, some idiot cut me up by using 3 lanes on a roundabout. There was also a woman driving along in front with no lights on in the pitch dark.

Out on my bike the other morning I seen another cyclist with no lights on and one guy went through a red light without even batting an eye lid on his bike.

Truth be told. You are a human. I am a human. We are all humans. And at the end of the day, every single one of us is a complete and utter ****.

******* deal with it by creating a stupid thread and posting witty comments to make you think you are the one in the "right". Bash on.
