I listen to radio over the internet now, why would I want crap quality DAB audio which would require me to buy new equipment just for the sake of listening to... crap quality audio? I don't see the point of DAB in the UK outside of lining the pockets of people that don't seem to care that they're pushing something nobody wants.

Regardless, this sort of nonsense is typical from the OP.

BS,

Technically, FM is almost switched off in London already, providing miserable 23 stations on the analogue poor quality sound vs as many as 118 stations in perfect digital quality.

Radio stations in London, England — Radiomap.eu

If you actually knew what the hell you were talking about you'd know that FM is bustling with stations. Pretty much as many as the band can support. There are no immediate signs of being switched off.

There's very little point trying to discus anything with you further. All the arguments why DAB is a failed experiment in the UK have been laid out.

I would love to have had a great UK DAB service, equal in fidelity to the promise that was CD audio, but it hasn't been, and isn't, and shows no sign of being so. The great white hope of the digital radio fraternity that is DAB+ will be another hobbled service. Quantity over quality, all the way down the line.

Whatever is happening on the European mainland is down to those individual countries. DAB+ is a step in the right direction, but the lessons from the UK about low bit rate have not been learned. Our European cousins are being railroaded down a very similar path as the UK was 20+ years ago. The exception is they've lost the back-up of FM. They have no leverage.

Don't see why you think fm is near to a switch off in London

(from earlier report) Internet is coming up on the inside, whilst I'm not convinced the smart speaker lot are more discerning on getting a bitrate greater than dab,
it's got no reception problems and more diversity ...
just need to find an internet radio for my parents now who would not want to type in a mu8 url's like I do on laptop

So are there good free IP radio apps for Android phones ?
prior to using VLC on a laptop, I'd tried the tunein app but unless you pay them money you can't access any station you want.

No.

The thread is for DAB+ in the car and with home audio systems.

No phones needed.

TuneIn Radio seems to be the biggest, assume some stations are broadcast in good quality, i.e. quality worth listening to.

Edit: Just done a quick test on the website and stuff like MagicFM / Absolute sounds OK.

Quelle surprise!

Man retiring from role as key figure pushing through DAB+ in France tells us what a good job he has done pushing through DAB+ in France.

Next, bears confirm they really do sh** in the woods.

8B and 8C should be possible for reception in London, Southampton area.

well he is not a francophile - the earlier wrp station is broadcast in english;

but - these are all DAB+ standard, lucky them, not the UK sub-breed.

Does anyone really care?

Go post on a French site.

This is what I don’t understand... We are a uk website.... DAB in this country is a complete joke. And all his posts are about another country. If we argue about the quality of uk broadcasts he can’t handle it and defaults back to quoting either A. a car or B. Back to Europe....

Blinkered or what lol :rolleyes::D
