They may charge you a replacement fee, but shouldn't cost much...

You shouldn't have a problem changing it, although they'll more than likely want the serial and packaging back with it - and no doubt charge a small fee :( .

All I have is the folder thingy it comes in, it does have the product key on it so with a bit of luck that is all they will ask for.

I will give them a call monday or maybe tomorrow I doubt they will be any answer on a sunday.

I have done this in the past, IIRC it was about £12 for the media inc shipping. I just had to fax / email proof of the CoA it took about 10 days to get the media.

Monday morning 8.30 they open i think?
Ask about a voucher for a discounted upgrade to Vista... i know people who have been given them for their cheek !!! ;)

lets hope its closer to £12 and a bit quicker than 10 days although I suppose that isnt that bad delivery time.

Ak!ta:
I will use all my charm and see what I can get out of them :D

It's legal to download the same ISO image of Windows, you still are using your legal serial number, it's just the method of storage of installation disc. ie when you buy a pre-made PC it won't come with install disc, so they instruct you to burn off a CD-R of the install/recovery ISO. Basically the same thing..making "illegal burns" of the ISO, but you still are using the same code.

^yeah or a borrow a friends disc to install but write your own serial code in.

Its the serial number that makes the version of windows legit. right?

IIRC it is still illegal. It's an still an illegal copy.

No, you can install a copy of Windows from most sources, hoever, the person ripping and hosting the image without an agreement with MS is being naughty.

use this http://www.roadkil.net/unstopcp.html to copy your xp disc to say C:\XPCD on a working pc, turn on logging mode (2nd tab) -leave it for a while until its done, it'll really try hard to copy every file, and the log will list the ones it can't copy

tell me what files it fails to copy, i'll send you them, then you can use nlite to reburn it to another disc, will work 100%
