did you know that Chav stands for....

"Council house and violent" - not my words and no disrespect to council tenants - that's what it stands for. In scotland they are/were called Ned's... Non educated delinquents...
 
Ten years ago before the term 'chav' was in common use, it used to be 'townies' because they were the kind of people who hung around the town all the time with nothing better to do. Before that it was 'scallys', although I have no idea why.

It does not mean that, urban rumour.
It comes from the roman word chavi meaning child. There are tones of theories of how it came about, one suggestion is that the independents in Cheltenham used to refer to the Cheltenham average as "chav". I doubt so considering Cheltenham is pretty middle class.
Another theory is that it comes from Chatham, Idc but all I know is that there are a lot in my hometown and most of them need to sort their life out.
