Damn you Ikea!!!!

The only problem I have had with Ikea is if you loose the receipt for an item, we bought a mattress around 5 years ago and last year two of the springs popped. I went into Ikea armed with a bank statement showing the purchase of said bed + mattress but they wouldn't entertain me - the bed comes with a 25 year warranty and I was 23 at the time, it's well within it's warranty period but they were not having any of it! Now I put the receipt for each item into a baggie and selotape it to the underside of the item :)

There was a program on years ago which done something similar. I think they used tread plate for the tops, and thick tubular steel legs. I cannot for the life of me think of what it was! Tommy Walsh MAY have been in it. He may not have!

You do know how heavy even a little bit of 1.5cm of steel is don't you?
Its roughly 7.8g/cm3.
So 1.5cm thick, x 800 long x 600 deep (Average desk size?)
is 5616 Kg.
Yes, 5.6 Tonnes! You would need some sturdy floors, a crane to get it in there, and some very thick legs.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Try 57.6Kgs not 5.6 tonnes!;)

Stainless steel is roughly 8000kg per m3 or 8 tonnes.

0.015 x 0.8 x 0.6 = 0.0072 m3

You seem to have done "cm x mm x mm" unless the average desk is 8m x 6m x 1.5cm thick?

Heavy but not 5.6 tonnes!

Apart from it's not though is it. More like 56Kg

7.85*1.5*80*60=56520 GRAMS

Dam, too slow browsing porn on the other tab...

yay *makes note to actually check other peoples maths in future thought it sounded off >.<)

now it can have a lot for a tower pc to go in :p (or should the pc be built into the desk with heat pipes from the components using the desk as a giant heat sink.

It's actually (pre-breaking) a really good product, its like a comfy chair if you whack a load of pillows on. A good single bed and then slides out into a double. But there is a join down the middle which is supposed to support the main part of the bed when you split it, this was the dodgy one which gave way.

Damn that sucks, I bought one of those but the 3 drawer version and I concur - they are a PITA to assemble. Just make sure to remember your receipt and you won't have any problems.
Oh and it most definitely ain't a child's bed when you see it in person.

Aye it's huge IRL.

Anyhoo I just spoke with Ikea and the chap on the phone was really pleasant and helpful. They are getting someone out in the next few days to look at it, if he can fix it he will otherwise he will be able to organise either replacing the whole thing or getting specific parts to make it whole again.

We done Ikea :) will let you know if I have hassle with them coming out but based on service so far I would think (and hope) not :)

Good result!

It gets even better.

The repair bloke rang and the conservation went something along the lines of;

"Hiya mate blah blah from Ikea, you reckon I can fix the bed?"
"Probably not its buggered"
"Ah sod it i'm too busy, are you in on saturday?"
"Errr.. yes"
"Right you'll have a new bed on saturday morning by midday latest, the lads will take away the damaged one"
"Brillaint thanks!"

:D

Fantastic customer service from Ikea and it faaar exceeded my expectations! :D

Rainmaker if its just the one broken slate you buy those separatly anyway. Will cost you about £15. 90x200 for the kingsize bed. I think that model has actually been discontinued now because we had so many back complaining of a split in the middle.

Told you, you wouldn't have any issues. They can build it for you but it's expensive, normally about 15% of the value of the complete item.

Idd, was uncalled for, though I didn't whine to the dons about it. Nice to see standards enforced, thanks chaps :)

Well if you have half as good service as I did you should have no bother!
