Group Lotus boss Dany Bahar was suspended from his post today while an investigation is carried out into a complaint about his conduct.

A statement from Lotus’ Malaysian parent company DRB Hicom said the move against the Lotus boss was taken following an operational review.

Staff at Hethel were also told about the development today, but the company gave no further details surrounding the complaint.

Today’s statement said: “As a result of a number of media inquiries, Group Lotus plc (“Lotus”) can today confirm that, following an operational review, chief executive Dany Bahar has been temporarily suspended from his role to facilitate an investigation into a complaint about his conduct made by Lotus’ penultimate parent company, DRB-HICOM Berhad.”

A spokesman for DRB-HICOM Berhad, which bought Lotus’ parent company Proton in January, said: “The penultimate holding company would like to stress it is business as usual at Lotus. We fully support the company and will continue to support Lotus in its business endeavours and development.”

In Mr Bahar’s absence, representatives of Lotus’ parent companies Dato’ Lukman Ibrahim, Mr Mohd Khalid Yusof and Mr Aslam Farikullah have been authorised by Group Lotus’ board to handle and conduct the day to day management and affairs of the Lotus Group. The statement added: “They will be assisted by Mr Rusman Zaihan. They have been authorised to take up these duties during the suspension period.”

Lotus’ future has been up in the air following the sale of Proton, amid rumours that the company could be sold to the Chinese sparking a campaign locally to keep the company in Norfolk.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

It's fantastic isn't it? :D

All we need now is someone competent in charge and Dany's loony management and consultants got rid of.

As Caterham has a facility just outside the Group Lotus gates, think anyone can pop round and see Tony.

And SniffPetrol are on the case. :D

A message from Dany Bahaha

Hello believers,

By now you will have heard news of my “suspension” from Lotus. Let me assure you that this is nothing to concern you. I decided to suspend myself from the company for reasons that I have not thought of yet. I wanted this just as I wanted to withdraw from those Indycar teams and stop paying for F1, also for reasons I cannot share with you until I have thought of them.

Sometimes, the only way you can grow a premium lifestyle optimum lifestyle upscale lifestyle brand is by looking at it from afar, such as from outside the factory gates standing next to a box of your own possessions whilst waiting for a taxi.

I have been touched by the messages of support I am certain you have sent though for some reason they have not yet reached me. Those of you with diseases, I will cure you in time. For now I need you to think positive thoughts about Lotus. I also need you to send me money. Non-sequential high denomination bills, plain envelope, the usual deal. It is not cheap to have hair that looks this good.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

The Reverend Sun Myung Dany Bahar

Dany 'Lunatic' Bahar is a demented ****-wit who was the CEO of Group LOLtus for a while. He's basically presided over the ruination of Lotus as a car manufacturer (well....their latest ruination, they've had several), was chief architect of the nonsense regarding the rights to Team Lotus, and is a generally unlikeable human being.

Which makes this news utterly fantastic and hilarious in equal measures.

They should bring back Mike Kimberley.

He was likeable. And okay he botched the press launch of the Evora with a muttering speech but he at least was a decent CEO with good ideas. He just had no money back then to do anything.

Pretty much.

He was extremely respectful to Lotus' history too, and knew that Group didn't own Team. ;)

According to James Allen

Bahar was due to be at a presentation of luxury apparel brand Lotus Originals in Monaco this evening, and was scheduled to make a speech at the event.

And that is exactly whats wrong with Bahahaha's Fauxtus.

Sounds like whatever it is couldn't have happened to a more deserving bloke.

Any rumours on what the reason is, general business incompetence or did he stick Mr Bahar Jnr somewhere he shouldn't

Sounds to me like DRB-Hicom got wind of that press release from a few weeks ago and decided it could be construed as misconduct.

At the end of the day if the new owners are looking to get rid of an executive they only need the smallest contravention of discipline and they've got you. Breach of contract etc. Provides a clean get out without needing to honour anything like pay outs, pensions, shareholdings etc...

COMPLETE TOTAL, UNDENIABLE business and personal incompetence, complete with arrogance and an ego which is visible from space.

Provides a clean get out without needing to honour anything like pay outs, pensions, shareholdings etc...
I hope so, because the **** doesn't deserve a penny.

Sadly I see Lotus going the same way as TVR, I know it's falling appart internally at the moment. What the HELL is it with our car industry as when we put our mind to it we can make some of the greatest cars ever made, but we over and over again mess it up through incompetence. It's like the industry only employs bad business leaders, it's history is littered with it.

Claims documents filed at the High Court of Justice in London reveal the action centres upon almost £375,000 worth of renovation work, paid for by the loss-making company, of a house rented by the chief executive.
Un-****ing-believeable.

Un-****ing-believeable.

Thats the house he's refusing to pay for because of about £1000 worth of issues, like the door was dirty and a screw was missing from somewhere.

Severely doubt that will have been the main reason for this action, but may well be brought up as part of the investigation proving his unsuitability for the role.

It is indeed, it's a quote from a link that spaz posted and then ninja'd for some reason.

I don't think it plays any part in his suspension, just in proving what a moron he is.

I truly hope not, and without Bahar and his 'make it a prestige marque alongside Ferrari, Porsche et al', which to any sane person was obviously never going to work in a million years, I think they have a chance.

They need to return to limited power, very low weight, no gimmicks drivers cars. That's what makes Lotus, Lotus.
