Danny Baker sacked

According to the Internet, only if she's black. :p

I didn't even know Meghan Markle was black or of black heritage

I don't think I'd dare post anything on social media if I were in the spotlight. You can't say anything without offending someone! I'm convinced people are just looking for the next thing to be offended by.

That's not to say there aren't real issues to address, but we're getting to the point you can't say/do anything without it being something-ist. Unless you're in a minority group, then it's ok.

Soap opera in countryside village features black man - token black man - racist.
Soap opera in countryside village features no black man - racist.
TV show set in Harlem - all black cast - not racist.
All male show - sexist.
All female show - empowering - not sexist.
Men demanding women flash - sexist.
Women demanding men flash - not sexist. (eg Britains Got Talent / Loose Women type TV presenters telling male performers to get their top off etc).

As to whether this was racist, I'm unconvinced, but organisations have to be seen to act, or those offended by Danny Baker are then also offended and outraged with the BBC. At a time when the BBC are trying to be seen to take action to make up for decades abuse/discrimination/racism/sexism etc it's probably a poor decision to post it, but I can see how it's done.

Kids are often referred to as "little monkeys".

Young children are when they are acting up, yes, new borns aren't

I think that's all he meant.

I don't think there's a basis for that

He was just too stupid to see the other implications

Initially I was giving him the benefit of the doubt, but he's not stupid and definitely not stupid enough to not know the connotations of what he tweeted and sure, we all do stupid things but his excuse earlier that he didn't know it was Megan's baby or else he wouldn't of tweeted it, smells of utter BS. So why is he lying and not just sticking to the 'it was a stupid but unintentional thing I did'

We called our son a little monkey from day one due to him gripping our finger really tight like monkeys grip on their mothers.

He is far from stupid and I can imagine that he could have done it as a bit of a "freedom of speech" moment.

I also think who is being racist here? Him for meaning something else or the people seeing it as racist and calling him out for it? It's their brains that came to that conclusion not his....

I must say I was confused at first by what the problem was. I genuinely just thought "I've seen that pic before" but racist concentrations didn't jump out at me. But I don't think like that anyway. Girlfriend and my lad call me an ape most of time!

Having said that, I understand the link clearly, its just not a link I personally recognise at the forefront of my conscienceness.

Here's one for GD ;)

He sends a tweet referring to the royal baby with a picture of a well dressed couple with a chimpanzee.

I don't see this as a bit of banter but clear case of racism, why do we still in this age refer to black people as apes ?

OK, he has apologised and deleted the tweet why did it even cross his mind to think it would be acceptable

If you refer to "black" people(*) as apes (as you say you do), you are the problem.

The reason why "it even crossed his mind to think it would be acceptable" is very simple - he's not racist.

In his own words (written very badly to fit on Twitter, which exists mainly for the purpose of making communication worse):

"Was supposed to be joke about Royals vs circus animals in posh clothes"

and regarding the bizarre interpretation some people put on it:

"Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased."

Sadly, many people's minds are diseased by racism and thus assume racism, racism everywhere, obviously. It's like those USA fanatical preachers a few years back who were so obsessed with homosexuality that they saw it everywhere, regardless of whether or not it was actually there. Often because they were themselves homosexual and denying it, since that's one reason for being obsessed with it.

* Specifically. If you refer to all humans as apes, that's a different matter.
