Good times,

Free transfers from the EU DAoC servers will commence "early" April according to the new guy in-charge of the game at Mythic. Therefore those of you that long for some proper MMORPG RvR will soon have about 3000 Americans to soothe your bloodlust with :)

EU -> Ywain Transfers

FYI, Anyone on Excal/Prydwen that cluster has been renamed Dyvet.

Cheers.

I really want to try the RvR in this as I always heard good things but after reaching lvl 15 i cant face levelling.

Damn i so want to play that again but my i've forgot my username plus password, problem is my email registered to the account no longer exists too so any ideas what i have to do?

Such an amazing game way back when. I think I'll leave well alone this time round though, they're never as fun to go back to - after all, we remember all the good bits and gloss over the bad.

Well a free month has just ended and I must say I've enjoyed it, even on a poorly populated EU cluster.

I'm looking forward to playing on a busy server again (when time permits) with old friends, should be a blast.

If you have your CD-keys, then try [email protected]

I have my subs and game usernames and passwords, however they won;t work in any combination. It also doesn't recognise the email addresses my accounts are registered with (just as well as I don't have access to them anymore thanks to Virgin mucking up my emails in the transition to the Googlemail backend). Haven't got round to sending an email yet though.

Played on US servers about six months ago and it took about three weeks from start to fully templated end-game char, playing evenings and weekends only. Task dungeons=easy exp.

Thats very true, using TDs you can go from 1-50 in a matter of days.

I started Daoc on the US servers when it was first released. I actually reactivated my original account a while ago and was quite chuffed to find that all my original characters from almost 10 years ago were still on there :)

I gave up a couple of years ago, won't go back as it's time to let this one die gracefully, rose tinted glasses etc.

What they dont' show is the 100 hours of grinding required to get anywhere!

Indeed. I miss the game terribly but would prefer to have my good memories of the game intact. Is this transfer the result of the EU servers being under utilised now? The last time I was on (Excal I think?) it was rather empty, mirroring Ultima Online's Europa shard to an extent population wise.

I dont really find that theres much grinding at all anymore, everythings pretty quick.

No idea what the populations were like on the EU servers, but I see more action on the Ywain server than I have seen in Daoc since the first year of release, its positively heaving on weekends.

Even with a lack of grinding the fact is that the game required a huge amount of time to play, RRs don't come quickly and there's a great deal of standing about or scouting in RVR. If you want to solo/duo it can be pretty horrible these days.

Many players who were back in US and UK beta onwards simply have different lives now, I couldn't dedicate that much time to a game, it'd feel like I was missing out on real life (which is entirely true!). Been there, done that and I'm never doing it again. I can barely play 2 rounds of BFBC2 without feeling that I'm stuck at the PC too long :)

Hehe, well I find that RRs come much quicker now than they used to 10 years ago, hell I dont even need to kill players to get RRs now.

Even today I find that the RvR in Daoc is still unmatched. Which is a bit of a sad testiment to the way MMOs have developed in the last 10 years really.

Yep the grind is so much easier than it used to be. I think my first 50 took about 40 days but i could probably do it from scratch in under 10 hours now.

They seem to be making the game much easier for the casual player. You can buy most of the high end loot/master levels with dragon scales/atlantean glass. I've also heard that rps come a lot easier now.

Looking forward to reactivating my accounts when the transfers start up. Daoc has the best pvp of any mmo, without a doubt.

Well I'm just letting you know, you'll all make up your own minds to if you fancy giving it a go.

However worth one last look isn't it? :)

Hahaha...thats how I ended up falling back in love with it. After 7 years away, I got an email saying they had reactivated me for 10 days and I thought..hell, why not. Its worth one last look around the place, even if just for the memories.

Ended up having so much fun on Ywain that I continued when the 10 days expired :)

Had a lot to learn about what had changed in the 7 years (which was a hell of a lot), but when I went out into the frontiers and bumped into a several hundred player fight at a keep again, I remembered why I loved it so much the first time around :)

Can't say DAOC is a grindfest if you've played WoW/Lineage 2 :p besides DAOC has by far the best pvp i've experienced so it's worth the leveling.

Funny thing is many players who quit like 5-8 years ago or whatever still keep having thoughts of the game and miss it a huge deal which says a lot.

I just hope the clusters can be successful because some people who've just started playing mmorpg's would like to see how this was.

I have to admit though i've never played a game which has made me have so many good gaming moments and such a nice community with it.

Daoc isn't a grindfest at all to be honest, you can buy most things with bounty points/farmed drops so you can get geared quite easily

Most stuff is now quest based because of the new dragon armour

I have to say i enjoyed the free month, old zones have been revamped because of the new additons

i am not sure if that is because of nostalgia or because i genuinley enjoyed it tho ><
Funny thing your first mmo

DaoC had the best character classes ever. I've never since been so torn between different classes - warden, shaman and cleric were my favourites. I'm extremely tempted :)

What's the latest expansion? I think I had up to the minotaur one.

Afraid I'm not too sure which one was the latest. When I left Daoc ToA was about to come out, handily when I redownloaded it a short while ago it came with all the expansions for free anyway, but not sure which order they came out.

Have to agree on the classes, theres what...something like 45 odd classes now? I just love all the differences in the classes and love the different skills. So many positional skills where you have to be attacking from a certain side of the target, and reactive skills where you can only use the skill after a block/evade/parry etc. Always liked that Daoc wasnt so much about just pressing the skill buttons but was about pressing the skill buttons at the right moment.

(dont forget that you get a personal mount at level 10 now, really helps with getting around :) )
