DAoC Origins

Well, only played DAoC for about 5 weeks in beta, so will give it a go, no idea what im doing as last time i played an infiltrator and no one would party with me lol...

hope they have got a better rep now...

We've been planning on playing origins for ages, we built our guild from old DAoC mates for WAR, but decided to perhaps give Origins a try too. http://merely.warbeard.org is our website/forums and we hang out in irc.quakenet.org #merelymortal if you fancy dropping by and discussing it sometime! :)

Wow, this could be quite something. I spent years playing DAoC back in the day (Helium from EoO if anyone recognises the name...) - Hopefully this takes off a bit better than the Classic server ;)

/wave from Jarakin the Eld in Eclipse on pryd. :D Am on same realm as Blej in WAR atm - it's bizarre!

I will be interested to see this go live as I played DAoC from it's uk launch and havent touched it in over 5 years, wonder if my account is still there...

Why could OSI or EA never do this for Ultima Online?

For years and years 1000's of players pestered them for a 1997 rule set server, but they refused.

Good move by Mythic this, I never got stuck in to DAoC despite briefly playing it, so this is tempting me to give it another shot.
It wouldn't have worked. Just look at the biggest old school private shard aka Hybrid. I and a few friends gave up there because it was just 90% reds. Couldn't get a thing done on the shard unless you were in a large guild.

Like everyone says, SI killed Daoc for the most part. I doubt a Classic server will work long term wise but I hope it does. It would be nice to return to the old lands again but leveling to 50 again....urgh.

Hmm no thanks. I remember levelling up the first time in DAoC was so mind numbingly boring at times that I thought I could feel my brain dissolve and dribble out my ears. It was only the newness that made it bareable, now it's all been done I just couldn't do it. Plus knowing the game will never expand, improve or even change at all would kill it for me. I assume they won't be patching it ever?

Better off getting a factory job working on a conveyor belt in the evenings, least you get paid for the monotony.

Course this is only from my point of view where I'd be playing on my own. If you're lucky enough to have a ready group of friends then it could be quite fun. But in that position I'd probably rather play EQ.

I actually checked the daoc websites yesterday and found a "possible end of november release date" but that was a insider rumour released on vn.

Leveling wise ,if you get your else organised, you should be level 50 in a week with a group if not sooner.

Is this going to be another repeat of the "classic" servers? i.e. it'll be beserk with subs for 3 months, then everything will die as everyone goes back to their ToA etc. servers?

I'm not sure about that because in my time when I played DAoC on US Server Merlin I always heard people saying how PvP and the game in general was way better back in the day etc..

Go back to the game that stole 2 years of my life? No thanks...

Hmm the game hardly stole anything from you mate sry :p

No SI! Didn't realise it was that far back. Actually, I'm not sure this will be so appealing now. I loved SI and catacombs, and only really detest ToA.

Used to love classic DAoC, nothing like a 5 hour grinding session at the Hib Shredders in DF :D. Not sure i could go back now though.
