Anybody watching this new show on Dave at the moment where celebs fight it out on old 8 bit games. Apparently Chuckie Egg is one of the games tonight :)

You have just reminded me of this, is it any good?

Speaking about computer games shows, are there any about these days? I remember a show called 'bits' i think on C4 late at night. Used to love that show, but there doesnt seem to be anything like that about now. Which is odd because computer gaming seems to be just as popular as ever, if not more so.

Hmm...is it any good.

Well, so far...its the usual TV attempt at something gaming related. Its a little forced and seems more about the people than the games but will see how it goes. David James has just picked to play Tekken, so could be amusing

Well its just finished now, after a dodgy start it got better and ended up sort of being ok-ish. Though the whole spinning chairs thing is really cheesy, like they are trying too hard. The idea is a good one but again you cant help but feel its been made by some TV execs who dont really "get" gaming or gamers.

Will watch again next week though to see how it develops.

Yeah, Bits was great. Used to love watching all the stuff on 4-later. 'Vids' was a personal fave.

8bit show about games that are not 8bit, bad comedy puns, spinning floors, celebs who claim to know about the games they have played but can't even work out what is left or right..

Awful

I've just watched it, it was terrible.

Imagine watching a lets play of your favourite gamer who immediately gets amnesia and forgets what button does what.

For half an hour, while being disinterested. Thats what this is.

don't lie

We all loved it apparently!

I suspect the people who " loved it " are not gamers at heart.

even in that screenshot Dara O' Briain looks skeptical of the whole affair!

Looks like me after ive been playing games for 18 hours straight. Not that im saying that is what he has clearly been doing but... Y'know just trying to keep some faith in this gracious tv show.

Ah yeah vids was also great. Man i miss those shows. I was like the guy in the 4 later adverts trying to keep his eyes open with matchsticks :D.

I think i'll give this 8-bit a miss then...

As nice as it is to see some kind of gaming on TV this show is mind numbing :(. So much cringeworthy moments.

Other than Dara they should replace the rest of them.

Edit: watched the entire thing and it was brief moments of gameplay split up by longer periods of scripted jokes(least they sounded too forced to be off the cuff jokes) and time wasters (spinning stage, countdown, brief history of a franchise).

Tekken was good though :).

Not sure what the "smashing the patriarchy" line was about though. Probably just too tired to comprehend.

Watched a bit but got a bit bored so switched it off, a good setup would be to remake games master, straight forward and could have a mix of celebs and public.

It wasnt great.

How any of the players could claim any gaming knowledge or skill is beyond me. Non of them looked to have any idea how to play any games whatsoever.

The Chuckie Egg and Tekken rounds proved that. David James picks Tekken then gets beaten by the same low kick round after round.

The best TV show based around games was, and still is, GamesMaster. It was funnier ( except that series that Dexter Fletcher hosted) and most of the time showed gamers with some skill. Apart from Dave Perry playing Mario 64.
