Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Yes, I'd be interested to hear people's opinions on how DS2 matches up to this one. I almost never get far through new game modes, so I imagine after I've got back to Capra and had my "ok, let's do this again, ******!" moment I'll be done. And not much left of my first game I imagine (only one more soul to get anyway). Will probably have another break from gaming after that, but would look forward to getting into DS2 if it's as good or better.

I thought you'd gone back into it the other night! ;)

Finished it Saturday night. Gwyn took me a few attempts, but a mad dance around the pillars with HCSM fixed his wagon. Got the job done but certainly wasn't pretty. The Benny Hill theme would have been an appropriate accompaniment, in fact.

Surprised myself in a quick NG run yesterday by just how fast you can get through the early game content (that took me ages first time). Had both bells rung within about 20-30 minutes, and exited last night at the bonfire before O&S after less than an hour of NG played. Think the last challenge I may set myself for this game might just be "kill Ornstein last"...

Yeah you can beast through most of the game on the subsequent play-throughs... If you're an achievement-hunter then it takes just under 3 playthroughs to unlock all the achievements, I was planning to do this but couldn't justify spending all that time when I had 100s of other games unplayed on my list...

SL1 run doooo eeetttt

:D

I've heard of this being done, and it is an impressive achievement but...

I'm under no illusions. I don't have those skills. I'm perfectly fine feeling good about beating the game at SL110(ish). And beating O&S with O dying last will be fine for me as my crowning NG achievement :)

Such an amazing game. Completely worthy of all the hype it got. Glad I finally got around to it. Really wanting to dive into DS2 right now, but think I need a break really. This game sucked up too many evenings and weekends.

Give it 2 weeks, and after you have finished Dark Souls 2 you will be trawling Ebay for a PS3 to play Demon's Souls and a PS4 to play bloodborne!

Actually, I have been having those exact thoughts about Demon Souls! (Not familiar with Bloodborne though... off to Google!). I've heard a lots of people have it as the pinnacle of the Souls series, and DS has certainly sucked me into this series. Can't remember when I played a game I thought was so brilliant. Probably going back to the original Deus Ex or System Shock 2. It does make me want to devour the whole series, for sure!

Demon's is excellent. Tbh though, it isn't in the same league as Dark imo. As I have said before, with the souls games I believe people generally think that the first one they played is the best because the whole series is so unique and it was their first experience of it.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback. I guess that's right. I can't imagine another game gripping me like DS for a while tbh. Guess I won't splash out on a PS3 then. :)

So, after two failed attempts I managed the last goal I'd set myself for this game:

Great battle that again showcased the brilliant combat mechanics of Dark Souls. The main problem in my failed runs was Ornstein kept getting in the way and taking hits I intended for Smough. And then when I did get Smough down first, Super O was a right bugger of an opponent. Felt great when I finally put him down.

Going to be a while before another game lives up to this one for me I think. It's really transformed how I think about games. I was always a bit leary of the idea of games reputed to have high levels of difficulty, but now I think I'll seek them out.

^

These games have ruined everything fir me :) in a good way!

I just get bored of everyday games lately whereas this series and bloodborne really hold me to the end and beyond

Not really buzzing for ds3 atm thiugh as im worried it could be a bit to much of a good thing over such a short time but im sure i will get it

Don't know about you guys but personally for me...

Demon's Souls - best bosses.
Dark Souls - everything else.

I honestly like both equally, bosses I think are much more varied and interesting in Demon's Souls but I love the world of Dark Souls.

Not played 2 yet though. :p

Yea i agree with that

2 has too many bosses tbh, with only a few standout ones

Demon souls had that co op boss where other players control it, amazing!

Demon's Souls I really enjoyed the mechanics of it. Dark and Light world tendancies and so on, though going back and playing it again not that long ago, it was very rough around the edges.
Dark Souls was brilliant. For me it was a better game than Demon's Souls as it felt a more solid experience but a couple of the Demon's Souls areas I adored and also some of the bosses.

Also don't blame you on the SL1 run, does take a bit of time commitment, it's also not as difficult as you think, upgraded gear/spells help and also the more cavalier attitude of 'not bothered about my souls as I dont need them' helps a lot :)
