Darkfall - beta testing anyone?

An interview was released yesterday on TenTonHammer with the lead Dev in which he suggests the game will first be available as a download before the game hits the shops, so it seems possible they will still release next Thursday. To me they seem professional enough to me..they just don't talk that much to the community and its full of speculation and trolls. This is the first time they've announced a release date and I think they will release when they say.

Also if you're unfamiliar with the game i'd recommend The Noob's series of beta impressions:

They talk about a player driven community and game, well if thats the case the crafting needs to be custom like SWG and the player cities need to be SWG like, this business of building a fort like AOC or having a housing instance is a load of cobblers.

Make every item in the game player made, thats what an mmo should be about.

player driven community and game usually means we didnt have time to add any real substance to our game but heres some pretty sand to play with.

mmmm not really.

UO did this and even to date (by most MMO players not all) considered to be one of the best MMO games.

I have more hope of Mortal Online being my next MMO than Darkfall though I will still try it when it surfaces.

let me guess- your mmo experience starts and ends with wow?
Ever heard of eve or ultima online?

Why don't people look into the features before making assumptions? You can make any item in the game and you can even stamp your name on it if you want..if its like UO then you can make chairs, tables, tools, weapons, clothes etc. There are also things like fishing, tree felling, mining etc for raw ingredients.

There are no instances..but specific plots where you can place buildings. The idea being that the whole world doesn't get covered in houses wherever theres no trees/ground is flat like happened in UO. You can have merchants so you have your own shop in your house. People can destroy your building though so they will probably be situated in player run cities.

Well if they release it this month, you pretty much will be in a beta :p

The game has been in internal beta for many months (years?) and closed beta since August I think last year..so you might be surprised

Probably..this couldn't be further from WoW if it tried..player skill matters, FPS style combat with manual blocking/parrying, no levels (but skills you train), outlaw system, equipment isn't so important as it can be looted when you die, ship combat, wars between clans over resources, cities etc. You aren't led by the hand carrot/stick style through levels but progress as you want by doing what you want..

Watch this gameplay video..focuses more on the PVP but it apparently will have good PVE too

It might flop, it might suck, but some people assume this before its even out and it seems before they even read anything about it. Most MMO's have failed recently..maybe this will stop the trend? I hope so because I think the mmo industry needs something decent that doesn't follow the same formula most mmo's followed since like Everquest. Also most mmo's in recent years have had WoW as a competitor and rival and on top of that they release buggy, crappy games..DF is a different type of game and if the devs are to believed will be a quality product on launch rather than patched to **** and playable a year later

no my mmo experience starts from around 10 years ago long enough to know promises are rarely kept even from companys that have/had a lot of peoples trust.

Looks and sounds fantastic. Is it confirmed what type of service it will be?

will definitely keep my eye on this project and hopefully see if i can get it next week if it comes out. Really want to stick to one MMO without it failing for me.

Hahahaha, the first video from that link, the 17min gameplay footage, shows you what i'm talking about, looks like a 5man group raiding a castle, the walls, floors and door look mega low res textures, the player models look like they have been dipped in gloss.
Ignoring for a moment it isn't even open beta yet so will have the lowest textures possible to reduce file size

It would bother most people....
for about 5 minutes then (if they make it as advertised) those who realise it has great gameplay and immersion will carry on playing and the ones who run after shiney things will go away (hopefully forever)
Low spec requirements will also open up the game to a much broader audience (particularly those who used to play UO), however it seems this will be doomed to being a niche game considering the lack of advertising/planning/exposure

Isn't that like 4 years old? I don't know, but if graphics concern you that much. Look up mortal online. :)
