They talk about a player driven community and game, well if thats the case the crafting needs to be custom like SWG and the player cities need to be SWG like, this business of building a fort like AOC or having a housing instance is a load of cobblers.
Make every item in the game player made, thats what an mmo should be about.
Why don't people look into the features before making assumptions? You can make any item in the game and you can even stamp your name on it if you want..if its like UO then you can make chairs, tables, tools, weapons, clothes etc. There are also things like fishing, tree felling, mining etc for raw ingredients.
There are no instances..but specific plots where you can place buildings. The idea being that the whole world doesn't get covered in houses wherever theres no trees/ground is flat like happened in UO. You can have merchants so you have your own shop in your house. People can destroy your building though so they will probably be situated in player run cities.
Well if they release it this month, you pretty much will be in a beta
The game has been in internal beta for many months (years?) and closed beta since August I think last year..so you might be surprised
let me guess- your mmo experience starts and ends with wow?
Ever heard of eve or ultima online?
Probably..this couldn't be further from WoW if it tried..player skill matters, FPS style combat with manual blocking/parrying, no levels (but skills you train), outlaw system, equipment isn't so important as it can be looted when you die, ship combat, wars between clans over resources, cities etc. You aren't led by the hand carrot/stick style through levels but progress as you want by doing what you want..
Watch this gameplay video..focuses more on the PVP but it apparently will have good PVE too

It might flop, it might suck, but some people assume this before its even out and it seems before they even read anything about it. Most MMO's have failed recently..maybe this will stop the trend? I hope so because I think the mmo industry needs something decent that doesn't follow the same formula most mmo's followed since like Everquest. Also most mmo's in recent years have had WoW as a competitor and rival and on top of that they release buggy, crappy games..DF is a different type of game and if the devs are to believed will be a quality product on launch rather than patched to **** and playable a year later
