Dash Update Details Confirmed...

I sense some irony in your posts considering you've asked me about it before and said you might even do it yourself

I never even said I was against it or hated it or anything negative about it if you read my posts. I just said I can't believe they haven't done anything about it as the data is all there. I've not even put up an argument for or against it.

Trust me if I did it I wouldn't be logging on with the profile. The stress It caused me through copyright infringement once won't be repeated again.

I had to write 3 seperate apology letters and send all my duplicate making materials and originals. Plus sign a letter where I fessed up to having giving them all the illegal material I owned.

As I say if I did it I don't care about my GS enough to have to log on with the unnatural profile.

As I said my interest is purely that. Look for yourself on mygamertag the next time one hits the torrents. I would love to know how MS view it and what their plans are. There's no irony McD, just an interest in how they intend on policing it or if they even intend on doing it.

Perhaps they are letting it continue while it sells consoles.

Wind it in, its not illegal to discuss how to combat modding. No one is discussing how to mod or whether you or anyone else should mod. I'm discussing the why's and wherefores of stopping it. Not one post is even condoning it. No links on how to mod.

Its illegal to speed, go tell them in the motors forum to not discuss going over 70 on the motorway ;)

I understand, just the posts sometimes come across as anti-piracy and you'd asked about it :p

Dont think people pirate because of their GS though, sure its a bit easier to boost it getting stuff early, but rental companies and the like still make point whoring easier! i was at 30k before mine became naughty.

I still buy games and still have a swapgame account as im a wierd pirate :/ i just picked up GH2 and not long ago Crackdown both fantastic games.

I think the reason nout has been done is because they want to make sure only the modded users are ffected, and maybe checking firmware isnt that easy to do via an update, or good enough to effect the right people - imagine if an anti-piracy update effect legit users and they lost there accounts - would not be pretty - a lot of these firmwares have stealth style abilities, in the sense any low level command issues back "im the original firmware" type response (at least thats how i understand it).

Or maybe the problem isnt big enough for MS to worry? They live with piracy on 99% of there products...ala Windows! out of what 6million Live users how many are modded?

Good points, I'm not really anti anything :p

From a points point of view I meant it not as getting through more games. Rather that people want to keep adding to the same profile. With the original xbox i'm told as a workaround people had one for live and one for naughty stuff?

This time people are prepared to risk their live GT by playing them anyway. If it wasnt for the score I'm sure most people would still do it the xbox way?

I wasnt meaning they did it to play more games, just not split profiling which is how I would do it.

Not afaik - the original xbox was banned easily because the actualy OS was hacked as such, not essentially hardware - the workaround was to turn of the modchip.. i used a software hack on my xbox which couldnt be used on live - but i didnt use it then. The xbox didnt have profiles as such though so not as simple.

I actually read a similar firmware mod was released for the orig xbox to after it was discovered on the 360 - the only reason hackers went this route is because the OS is hard to crack**

** - The following is acurate to how i understand it :p

i would prefer to use this smaller keyboard since i wouldnt need to unplug it from my pc and back again everytime i want to use either but the added expense of a wireless headset on top is just far too much too just use the keyboard

I'd agree with that but the fact the jack on the bottom of the keyboard suggests three possibilities to me:

a). A new headset will be bundled
b). An adapter to use existing wired headsets will be bundled
c). You'll have to use your own random 2.5mm jack headset or a new wired headset will be sold seperately

I reckon a headset will be bundled with it personally as an adapter would be a bit crap - you'd have a bulky bit dangling down. Also buying the keyboard only to shaft yourself with regards to the headset seems to be a weird move. As voice chat is a pretty big part of Xbox Live I'd think MS would have the sense to include a new headset of some sort. We will soon see :)
