Dashcams!

I have a £50 Halfrauds voucher and was looking at the Blackvue Dr590 for £216 plus install. They also had the 750 for £349. Both front and rear set.

Is there much difference between the two? I know the 590 doesn't have WiFi. Not sure how much an issue that is.

See so many dashcams on windscreens on the road now, it's not just everyday cars either. A flipping brand new Panamera GTS had one the other night and he came alongside me with a fair speed and stopped at a set of lights.

He then launched it at green.

The worst part is that his camera was in the middle of the windscreen, just like the majority I see. I thought placing phone holders/cameras etc in such places on the windscreen was an offence?

It is, I believe it qualifies as dangerous driving. There should be nothing in the space where the wipers sweep.

yeah, it is causing an obstruction from you to see the road in front of you, which is obviously illegal and dangerous
i have my camera behind the mirror so you dont see it at all

even sat navs should not been placed in the same bad way, you should really place them on the bottom far left of the car , or you could place top right, i have mine mounted on the center console so its completely out of the way

To be fair, it's not just limited to dashcams. The amount of folk who have satnavs or phone mounted in the centre of the screen is crazy. I think It's supposed to be an MOT fail if you even have anything dangling from the mirror, but you see it all the time. Then again there is a ever increasing number of folk who treat the roads like it's 'Wacky-Races' anyway.

I spent ages looking for a camera with a discrete mount that I could get up behind the mirror. I can't even see it from the drivers seat. In the end I bought a Viofo 'Wedge-shaped' camera, and thus far it's been excellent. It's also hard to spot from outside the vehicle so I don't worry about leaving it in place.

There's a woman at work who has a phone holder and a dash cam smack bang in the middle of her windscreen below the RVM. Its ridiculous.

Back on the dashcam subject, can anyone recommend me a decent discreet one that I can hardwire in? Happy to spend decent money, but not anything silly.

Ta?

Is there a huge difference between a £20 cam and say a £199 cam, I need a cam for some footage but otherwise don't generally need one, I need around an hours of footage, the better quality the better ideally, but I don't want to spend much on it, so how would you rate a £20 cam?

An iPhone would probably better?

Have a look at Viofo. They get pretty good reviews and are reasonable money. I think they've just introduced a dual camera setup to their range. I bought a Viofo A119 Pro, it was under £100 I run mine in 1080p and its absolutely fine quality wise. Have a look on youtube. That said £100 will get you something that is more than up to the job.
