Dashcams!

Have just got the Viofo A229, I’m a bit confused how the WiFi works. I seem to have to connect to the Viofo WiFi to use the app.
I can’t seem to work out how to use my home network and the app?

So currently I have to keep going into my phones WiFi settings and connecting to the Viofo network.

Sounds about right, it's a WiFi direct between phone and device normally.
Not heard of them connecting to your house WiFi, but I don't know all the different units.
Does that one say it should?

There is a setting in the app where you can enter your home network and it connects but the app doesn’t work, must be some method for transferring files. No probs I will just use it with the viofo network.

Guys I need a front facing camera only to go in a small van .

At around d the 1
£150 budget would the VIOFO A119 Mini 2 be one sensible buy or is there something else that is better for the money?

Just bought a viofo VS1 but am struggling to find a location to fit it. My car has a massive central housing covering the rain sensor/cameras (ironically).

I can't fit it to the left of the rear view mirror due to the power socket being on the right, which would be blocked by the housing, and it covers the auto dimming rear view mirror.

Only place is tight up behind the mirror on the drivers side, but a good portion of the view to the left is blocked.

Is it even worth it? If not I might just return it.

The image quality is poor at the moment as I still have the plastic cover on it.

This is as high up the windscreen as it can go, any higher and the rear view mirror blocks it being mounted. It is so tight against the mirror in fact that it is touching the button on the back so funnily enough all I need to to do lock the video is gently pull the camera towards me, which presses the button against the back of the mirror.

It should be possible to lower the camera slight and twist the camera to point the lens down more. It is not important that you see sky as much as you see enough to determine responsibility.

Cheers, I did end up lowering if ever so slightly, but too much was sticking out under the drivers side of the rear view mirror so will just see how it goes where it is :) At least it looks discreet and hard to see from the outside.

Only other trouble I had is I could not figure out which side of the fuses were the battery side and which were the device side. The probes on my multimeter couldn't fit into the slots in the fusebox for the micro2 fuses. So I ended up taking a 50/50 shot and assumed the lower connectors (the side that the large cables coming in to the fusebox) were the hot side.

Other than that apart from needing to take a few trim pieces out to route the cables behind the airbags and to find an easier ground point it was fairly easy.

Hi guys,

I'm interested in getting a dashcam installed in my A4 Avant but have no idea where to start with this.

In terms of the cam itself, I'd be looking for both front & rear, as discrete as possible (don't want a screen). I don't mind paying more for better quality (4K?) but I've heard that a lot of the "premium" models aren't really any better than the cheaper ones?
No idea what features are available or that I should be looking at? I presume they all just record to an internal memory card and you can then access them with an app for viewing/downloading?

Installation-wise, I'd be looking for a professional install with all cables properly hidden in headlining etc, correctly plumbed into power and so on. Does anyone have any recommendations for installers in the West Mids? How does such an install affect any warranty?
Main use would be for driving but I think some will also record when stationary to catch any parking bumps etc? Doesn't this flatten the battery?

As you can tell I know pretty much nowt and apologies but I can't face wading through nearly 4,000 posts.
If anyone has any info/advice/pointers I'd appreciate it :)

My 5 year old Nextbase 522GW is no longer starting recording when I turn the car on - it works if it is powered on, disconnected, and powered on again straight away, and I can turn it on manually - but guarantee I will forget to do so on the one occasion I really need the footage!

Replaced the SD card with a new one, still the same issue - and it occurs whether it has a card in or not anyway.

Talking to Nextbase now, but suspect it will need replacing, so looks like I need a new camera - front & rear.

I watch a lot of Ashley Neal and he recommends Viofo - are they any good, or just a plug because of the sponsorship deal?

Any other suggestions?

Well... kudos to Nextbase where it's due, they're sending me out a Nextbase branded 32GB MicroSD card to test with and confirm it's definitely not the card causing the issue.

I'm fairly confident it's not going to make a difference, but you never know, and it's certainly good customer service for a 5 year old product which is way out of warranty, when they would have been entirely justified in politely just fobbing me off :)

Nextbase is the biggest brand and has 80% of the UK market. They offer a professional fitting service although I've not tried it myself:

I was looking at Nextbase and Thinkware but struggling to work out the key differences between them. These things have got so complicated lol.

SD Card made no difference :(

However they said I can keep it anyway as a gesture of goodwill :)

Some more investigation, and I think I found the culprit:

New battery on the right, old one on the left... not sure it's supposed to look like that!

It also seems to be holding charge now, which it wasn't before - haven't tested it in the car yet as only just got a chance to replace it.

Can anyone recommend a fleet/multi vehicle dashcam system/hardware that you can actually buy ?

I'm struggling to find anything that isn't rubbish or has silly unwanted subscriptions.

Ideally front view, cabin and rear. maybe some kind of nvr with a ssd , as dealing with 100's of micro sd cards isn't feasable. Easy access to video via a laptop or app that knows which vehicle its acessing. Non cloud based.

Just wondering... I've still got the A129 Pro Duo in my car, is it worth upgrading it to something newer at all?

the A129 i think is still a decent camera (other swill know more)

I recommend a blackvue (i switched from Thinkware) nice and discrete and they offer 3 Channel set up (front, rear, internal)
