Dat wait after a Job Interview :O

Hello, I missed the thread necro!

Well, after 1 month and 1 day from my interview, having called the lady to follow it up twice and it sounding very positive (we have a few more interviews lined up, but I don't want to say anything yet as your interview went very well AND I will call you, not write to you if thats ok..)

Thursday just gone I came home to a letter saying thanks for the interest but you have been unsuccessful. Thanks for the interest.

Pretty devastated, it all sounded like it was going my way :( Going to have to find something more generic to apply for I guess...

I've emailed to ask why and get feedback, and also offered to volunteer some of my time to gain experience, but no reply yet.

Bad luck dude :( I had a similar thing a few years ago when I had a 2nd interview for a job where I was getting all the “and this will be where you will sit“ *wink wink*. Obv didn't get the job...

Unlucky dude, keep going :), I had my first interview this past saturday which turned out well. need 2 wait as well as I know there is definately competition out there. but otherwise I'll take experience and learn from it and look for another one.

Well I am in a difficult position where I have a job start for next Monday and had every intention of taking it until I went for another interview last Wednesday and was told late on Friday afternoon that I was successful.

Second job is 6k more and what I really would prefer to move into but am now in the situation where the first job's HR are asking me to return the signed contracts, etc but still waiting for the written offer to come through.

Going to have to turn down job 1 tomorrow before I have written confirmation of job 2 which kinda sucks but I really don't want to mess the first employer around.

Don't turn it down before you have written confirmation of the second job. Probation periods are there for a reason. Tell job 1 you have an offer from job 2 and you want to take it. If they get mardy about it, just say "ok, see ya then."

@OP; bad luck chap. Wasn't meant to be, so don't let it beat you up and keep applying :)

Always take this at face value. Perspective employers lie about this to ALL candidates that are in some form of contention for the roll. The reason they do this is if they have two/three/four candidates for a position they will string them along until they get their choice confirmed and in the door.

It lets them save face if choice number one says no or quits within a week. You can't really phone someone up and say "Hey! our first choice didn't work out? Still want that job?" they would rather phone up with the spiel about you being the best candidate for the job and above the others.

If you hear the above at least take some positives that your interview went OK. Not great, but OK.

Well I finally have my start date for job 2 for next Tuesday. It was a bit of a stressful week waiting for the offer to come through as I turned down the other role last Thursday. When there were a couple of hiccoughs with my references, I really started to panic but all seems ok now.

Can't wait to just get started now, it's been a long haul.
