David Beckham set to retire from Football

Outstanding player, true professional and a role model for anyone in football. He will be missed.

I suppose it depends how you're defining role model and whether you just consider strictly football or not but he did have at least one affair while married. Should that factor into consideration or not? I don't know but I thought it worth mentioning anyway.

However that aside he's had a remarkable career and was quite brilliantly marketed. He's obviously worked very hard to make the most of the talent he has and his application as a professional has been near exemplary.

There's been rumours and claims but nothing concrete. I don't believe them, personally.

At least use one that has good commentary fitting for the goal :p

Venue :-

Triple Kirks Pub, Aberdeen

Time :-

Just after the free kick goes in.

'Commentary' from my mate Kev directed at the half a dozen England fans enjoying the goal

'If England's so ******* great, why don't you **** off back there!'

Cue the shortest barmaid there to come across and give him a telling off :D

I officially feel old. Was coming back from the gym and hear some kids talking about Beckham in the same way I'd talk about Van Basten or someone - they never saw him play for United or England 'but he was meant to be quite good'. Jeez.

+1.

Fantastic player, real leader and (whilst I hate this term) lionheart for England who would give it all for the shirt, but at least he brought the skill with it.

Enjoy retirement Becks!!!

I don't care I'm not married to him, but if he didn't do it with that Loo's women they would have sued the backside out of her, like they threatened to then gave up without another word. Unlike the yank rag which he got compo from.

Not that I blame him, If i was married to a women that looked like cherrie blair when she smiled I'd have banged whatever moved too.

Was beginning to wonder when good ole Becks was going to call it a day:p

Superb player for both country and Utd, has had quite a career...winning titles in a few leagues ie EPL, La Liga and MLS.

Chris Waddle:o

Former England winger Chris Waddle says David Beckham is not in the top 1,000 players from the Premier League era.
Ex-Manchester United midfielder Beckham, 38, will retire from football at the end of the season.
"I would say he has been a good player, I wouldn't put him down as a great," Waddle, 52, told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"You can go down a list of footballers since the Premier League and I don't think David Beckham would probably be in the first 1,000."

Massive respect for David Beckham, he seems like a genuinely nice guy as well. The freekick against Greece is one of the best goal ever imo.

Was glad when he stopped playing for England. For all the adulation he gets he was an extremely limited player. The kind of player for some reason England fans love and wins over 100 caps. Part of the reason England aren't very good.

tbh england would be better if they had more players like beckham, showing the desire to play for there country, not like the idiots who "retire" cos they arn't getting picked, or the muppets with more talent that are to plain lazy to put the effort in or don't appreciate the chance to play for there country.
