David Cameron 'orders new curbs on Internet Porn'

Cheers. Saved me looking it up it my Pyschology textbooks.

There were plenty more but I thought that would be enough, especially as it has been both ignored and is well outside my field of study!

The evidence does seem to suggest that access to pornography during adolescence can be harmful and can even have negative aspects later in life too. From body image issues to unrealistic sexual expectations to more accepting attitudes towards sexual violence. That isn't to say that a Victorian attitude to sex is healthier or that the government should censor pornography anymore that it currently does. However I do think it is important to be honest about potential harmful effects.

I'd be very surprised to see this happening to be honest, it's just something to keep mumsnet / stupid parents happy. It'll be stuck in the pipeline for years.

I think it's good.

Yourbrainonporn.com explains all addictive properties porn has etc.

Read it.

Porn is toxic, all these fat middled ages dudes sat on pc games fapping to porn instead of getting themselves into shape.

What happened to leaving parents to actually do the parenting?

They failed, we tried it by banning the cane and limiting what teachers were allowed to do its resulted in most kids today lacking discipline, having a lower standard of education (than they would have if teachers had any power to stop unruly kids disrupting the classroom, and force others to pay attention), you only need to look at the average school to see this.

But then another Labour government will just be as bad...

There needs to be a party that just wants to actually do the things people in this country can all agree on. It's all to focused on spiting another party and making themselves look good in the newspapers, and coming out with stupid ideas to appease a few people.

The problem with any political party is they do things to appease one class or one part of the country. We need a party that finds the middle ground between the two and doesn't pussy foot around things that need to be sorted out.

maybe we should give the liberals a chance then? will they really be worse than the other 2 who have proved for decades they cant be trusted...

So if I had kids and say 'yes' I shall be forced to install filters and will presumably be put on a list of persons 'who look at porn' which presumably will be the foundations for future legislation.

If I say 'no' even though i have kids, I would be prosecuted? Maybe my access confiscated?

If I say 'no' and i don't have kids, presumably my name will go on a list as per the above for the above reasons?

1984 anyone? What happened to leaving parents to actually do the parenting? Wasn't that the Tories original line when they were smashing labour for it?

FFS, limit your kids access to the computer through user/account management and install one of a dozen freely available pieces of software which filter/monitor what your kids are looking at online.

It's not exactly difficult!

So what if you say 'no' to the having kids question even if you do? The ISP reports you and you get prosecuted? Under what act?

Surely you can just say 'Yes I have kids' ' No they don't have access to the internet'. 'This new computer is for me'. And unless someone actually actively monitors your usage and physically sees your children accessing the internet you'd be in the clear.

What a crock.

Baran (1976) showed that exposure to pornography led to reduced satisfaction with their own sexuality.

A study by Malamuth and Check (1981) backed up by one by Weisz and Earls(1995) showed that exposure to pornography where women as victims of sexual aggression aroused the women where then shown to have an effect of increasing the acceptance of the use of aggression against women in sexual and nonsexual interactions.

Edit: Sorry missed the bibliography

Baran S J (1976) How TV and Film portrayals affect sexual satisfaction in college students Journalism Quaterly 53
Malamuth N, Check. J (1981) The effects of mass media exposure on acceptance of violence against women. Journal of Research in Personality 15
Weiz, MG, Earls CM (1995) The effects of exposure to filmed sexual violence on attitudes towards rape. Journal of Interpersonal Violence 10
what has sexual abuse , violence towards women and rape got to do with porn?

only a very small percentage of porn is this type.

maybe we should block all TV to houses with children because children are being exposed to violent programs and programs with abuse towards women and it is desensitising our children!

btw
random survey I conducted in random year showed that exposure to TV soap opera's led to reduced satisfaction with their own lives..
