Day of Defeat: Source - Free This Weekend!

My first couple of rounds were like that but I switched to another server and had a good long game that kept swinging back and forth.

Hey Fullfat I wasn't making any direct comparisons to cod, thing is I've played nothing else online before, just saying not sure if I prefer it. I sure like the feeling of space compared to cod though :) there I did it

lol, i wasnt being nasty, apols if i seemed harsh. i think its because i loathe cod2. nothing to do with dods though, i bought cod2, played it online for a few hours and then sold it, bought dods and never looked back.
cod2 would have been great 4+ years ago but its not really got anything new.

hey,

just tried this....and just could not get into it! The map i played was tiny (are they all like that?) and the animation/general graphics although nice just seemed so static (thats with 4xAA 8xAF everything maxed)? Maybe ive been spoiled with BF2 which ive only been playing for the last two weeks. But i just cant see this competing for my time when BF2 is just so much more enjoyable to me.

Maybe im being a bit harsh and will give it another go later tonight. But for now im off back to BF2 which for me is still the definitive online combat fps.

Cheers,
Hugest

They're totally different games but i do agree with BF2 being the supreme online game.

DoD:S just isn't doing anything for me at the moment. It's gameplay just isn't satisfying. I can't put my finger on it but there is just something missing from the game. :(

Ah well, at least this free trial has stopped me from buying it! :)

The weapon audio/recoil and general movement in DODS is dreadful, what suprised me more was the awful graphics, you can't tell me its visually better than CoD2, I had to check I wasn't running in 800x600:o

Sorry for comparing it to CoD2 again but what else do we compare it to? They're both in the same genre its just one is years ahead of the other. CODUO audio was better than COD2 but lol, even MOHAA audio was better than DODS:o

I'm also thankful of the free trial, but I'd be suprised if they made many sales from this, there are much better games out there.

I play DOD:source as it's incredibly fun :) granted it might not look as nice as COD2 but for gameplay it's more realistic, better sounding imo, and miles more fun.

I've played DOD for donkeys years, so I'm bound to be biased :)

WOW i couldnt have imagined how much fun this is, i love it, spent the last 2 hours playing mainly on european fighting force(i think) public server, after getting used to the play of it and the weapons i really started to have fun, good fair balanced play, flags yoyoing back and forth, fighhting for posession.
actualy team play isnt as cooperative as i'd have hoped, i spent a large amount of time yelling at the screen, but i geuss thats because its public server, but still this is great fun, i may even buy it afterall.

Ok then if we are going to make comparisons then, I think the movement on dods is awful along with the controls. its much more fluid and under control in Cod2
Also I'm disapponted with the textures I thought there would be more eye candy, it's more colourful than cod2 but I expected more somehow.
The sounds are much richer on Cod2.
Nah sorry you Dods fans but I'm glad I got to play it before I parted with my money.
Back to the cramped Cod2 maps for me.

:) no worries, glad you were able to have a bash at it rather than splashing out and being dissapointed.

youre the first to say that about the gfx :s
and cod2 is years behind everything else in everyway apart from graphically, which is its best feature btw imo. theres no gameplay difference between cod2 and allied assault.
dod:s offers a different, new refreshing element to the ww2 game with the frantic flag capturing to win the round etc and the too'ing anf fro'ing between sides and not just a frag fest, being able to end a round after 30secs is a great feature for me.
maybe youve just not given it enough of a chance.

The gameplay is EXACLTY the same as DoD 1.3. Which is over 6 years old.

New you say?

I've been playing since 8pm, trying to like it. But it's just like DoD 1.3, but without the fun of bayonets and a properly balanced Thompson.

Not great. :(

Maybe i'd enjoy it more if they added all of the original maps. But at the moment, it's merely serving as an advert for DoD 1.3 to me..
