Think it deserves a new thread as it sounds like a brand new game!

"While its the new become the norm to take the **** out of Dayz, most cant deny that some of the greatest moments happened in dayz". "It still has a massive fan base who are dying for an excuse to play it again".

As someone who was massively let down by standalone. I now kind of get the logic behind why progress was so slow. They realised early on the limitation with the engine so designed a new one. This meant most content created on the old engine was a waste of devs time!

Anyways:

BETA (Few months off):

* Base building from the get go
* Heli's soon after
* Ability to mod.
* New movement and UI

Above is just a snap shot... Personally all of those are enough of a reason for me to take another look post BETA launch.

I do wonder if this will come from behind and retake its glory as a FPS survival.... Maybe!

Anyways... Watch from 6.10 for the biggest changes.

I tried several times over the past 3 years to get into Dayz standalone but even though I've clocked about 100 hours into the game I came to the following conclusion.

The game wasn't fun

The social interaction with my friends made it great fun, but with the gameplay I usually found myself asking the same questions over and over again,
Why does the game run like cack? Why has the gun which I spent 4 hours searching for disappeared through the floor? Why can't I find food anywhere? Why am I always ill/injured? Why is the netcode atrocious? Why am I basically having to play a game of tetris to fit all my items into my rucksack? Why have I broken my legs again running down the stairs? etc etc.

Which is probably why a lot of people find PUBG a lot more approachable, because it's streamlined a lot of these gameplay issues and obstacles - I'm not saying it's prefect however. But this Beta release just feels like Dayz trying to claw back the market share which they have lost to PUBG.

I have had some of my best gaming memories in DayZ standalone, but that was sooo long ago, it then got quite boring as there was nothing to do, other than KOS, which in turn ruined the game for others. When it hits beta I'll return to it, it does sound good

You managed more hours than me.... I literally haven't been able to get off the coast!

However, it sounds like when the BETA is released in a few months time it'll be like playing a new game!

I hve never understood why its still been in DEV.... After watching the video above, I can now sort of see why. I think they've legit used the income and have put it toward making the game good!

You must remember we're in uncharted waters. Whos to say that one of the first EA games which was dog **** turns around and becomes an over night success like PUBG... They have the money, they have the need for it to be successful for console...... The changes they're talking about making imo could just do that tbh!

I miss Dayz..... I miss everything about it!

Do you get this for free if you already own the normal DayZ?

No if you were all aboard the hype train in 2012 ( I think) then you had the pleasure of paying £19.99 for standalone, which was one of the worst games I've ever played!

Survive the Nights is about to hit as well, fun times ahead.

Will take a gander.

Is this the game that I paid over £30 for which was a buggy mess, and taught me never to buy pre alphas again? :p

I know why they struggled. It's because they became rich and then couldn't be arsed.

Day Z was the worst £20 I ever spent in my life, I felt robbed as it was nothing like the videos I watched it was just me walking round for hours in an empty world at real low fps.

You'll like Survive The Nights goon, but you won't like the development timescale. It's a very small development team and this is their first major project - they're learning as they go and as a result it can be slow progress for the development. For example, it should have been released to Early Backers a good few months ago but unfortunately has been delayed repeatedly. They are now in a state where the internal testing has expanded to their community moderation team for some final "bug fix" sessions prior to backer release - expecting them to release keys in the next couple of weeks. On the flip side, they are very active in engaging with their community and are not afraid to hold their hands up and admit where they are having issues, which is refreshing to see.

Days SA gave me aids. True story.

It's absolutely poor and should never have been released as alpha. The beta should be the alpha. Worst £20 I ever spent gaming.

Base building, yes please! Just like that one Arma 2 mod, Exile or Epoch was it?

^ What about 0.60 onwards? I felt that was great, performance wise mainly.

I have some of my fondest gaming memories on DayZ, surviving for over 30 days with over 70 kills on my server (which was top 20 in terms of population on some leader board) I loved the game. The footage for the beta looks pretty awesome if I'm honest, in my opinion it still looks clunky and after playing PUBG for nearly 700 hours I just don't know if I could go back to it... By all means I'm willing to give it a try though. Thanks for the heads up.
