I really like the idea of a DC2 integra. The problem is I do quite a lot of mileage in my job (600 miles a month maybe, mostly non motorway) and also travel a fair distance to visit my and my girlfriends parents every now and again (about 3 hrs drive to each mostly on motorways).

Question 1 is how is the fuel economy in real world terms, I think i get 39 mpg avg from my 306 xs does the integra really do the quoted 30 mpg combined?

Question 2 is : Ive sort of built up this mental image of the car being a really noisy stripped out bone rattling track car. Am I being paranoid, is it just noisier than a quiet modern car? My little 1.6 306 is bloody noisy on the motorway is it way worse than a normal smaller engined car?

I get 28mpg "mixed" driving on A/B roads, stopping and starting, odd bit of VTEC. Thats about 230miles on £38 of Optimax/VPower.
I recently got 300 miles out of the same tank on a long motorway run (dunno what that MPG is!)

Its not "that bad" on the motorway, mainly road noise (there is no sound proofing, take away the rear seats and you get the bare metal shell) so its barable. 70mph is about 4000rpm, but its a relatively quiet engine.

I had an Elise before, so its relatively quiet for me. The odd motorway journey I could put up with - if I was doing it on a regular basis, I'd definately look elsewhere...I should imagine it could wear you down after a while.

Question 1 : I've averaged around mid 20's to 30mpg depending on how much VTEC you use. At current fuel prices (91.9p for Tesco 99) I get around 240-260 miles to £37/£38.

Question 2 : Yes it's noisy compared to say a modern petrol/derv but not unbareable, I just turn up the stereo.
I do around 800/900 miles per month in mine and it's more than comfortable. The current daily trek is from Chippenham to Cirencester on twisty A roads which is lots of fun when clear.

Your best bet is to test drive one, 70 mph is 4000rpm in 5th on the motorway.

30-35mpg is possible if driven sensibly but may be hard to hold back;)
They're not great on motorways, I'd guess at 4000rpm+ at 75-80mph so it's pretty loud but definitely possible to own as a daily driver. My CTR will do the same speeds at 3300rpm so again, it's not exactly quiet!

I'm sure a DC2 owner will reply soon with more accurate figures:)

Edit- see, beaten already:o

600 miles a month is a LOT?

crikey.

Just noticed this. 600 miles a month is not a low - it's well under average mileage. It's a pretty low mileage if its your total annual mileage, but I can see how it might seem like a lot if its in addition to your usual mileage.

Have you had one Nathan? I know the hearsay is they are noisy motorway cars but im just wondering if thats coming from people who chose it over beemer and expected it to be as quiet as their motorway barges.

Edit: wow thats a lot of posts in the time i took to type this thanks guys. I work all around gloucestershire so it will be those exact twisty cirencester roads il be driving down.

Its not "that" noisy - but its all relative to what your used to. If you drive a Maybach (or should I say, get driven around in a Maybach :p ) you might find the Teg a trifle noisy, old chap.

As I say, coming from an S1 Elise, for me it was nice and quiet!

Nope, been in one and it was a fair bit louder than my GTI-6 so I presume its a fair bit more noisy than your 1.6.

Will be fine.

S2000 is louder and as raw and I don't find it a problem. Does rev a bit high so economy ain't great, but who cares.

Well isn't this a thoroughly useful thread so far :p

Edit: With the exception of Nathan!

Having never driven either car, what could I say? :p

At least I provided the name of someone who could help.

Your post was helpful though, wasn't it Fox ;)

As has been said, I average between 25-30 mpg, more on a long run.

As of yesterday I put my full interior back in, I had been running it with the rear stripped out totally. Combined with a full Buddyclub exhaust it was pretty damned loud.

I got totally sick so decided to put everything back in, but add a bit of sound proofing at the same time. I didn't want to use dynamat or similar as it's quite heavy, instead I used house insulation (the type wrapped in platsic) it's made a huge difference, there is no road noise at all from the rear now. It weight sod all too :D

Overall the car isn't too bad for your average commute, obviously it won't be as quiet as a BMW or similar but then it isn't that sort of car.

:D

right, if you're even asking those questions i fear the mighty dc2 may not be the car for you, my questions when purchasing were much more orientated around speed and handling :)

anyway, if you're just tying up the loose ends in your mind and really like the idea of a teg, then yes they can do 30MPG, like most people 240 miles out of a full tank of V-Power is what you'll be looking at... i do confortably over 1000 miles a month (including motorway driving) and i love every second of it! yes its more of a rough ride than a 306 would be and yes its noisier, but god DAMN its the best handling production fwd car ever made imo! a real joy mate trust me.

sidenote: hey -neil-, did you get that leaf off that was stuck on your rear bumper at JAE?

Yeah I already know the car handles like a house fly and is fast. As you said its tieing up lose ends. In all honesty im fine with the noise, its dependant on my girlfriend not moaning about it constantly. She wouldnt stop me buying it but she would make the motorway journeys hell ;). My other option is a celica 190 but i cant help thinking they are a bit expensive and watered down compared to the teg. Also my 1.6 xs seems noiser on the motorway than my dads old GTI 6 did. I think its just the smaller engine whining.

Consider a Prelude 2.2 VTEC too.

Similar performance to an Integra, almost as good on track, but much more refined and comfortable than an Integra, definitely more of a cruiser, but it can certainly hold it's own along a B-road :)
