DC2 vs. RX8

Like I've said, I'm perfectly aware of the car I'll be getting for £3.5k.

As for Fox, thanks, but I find Snap on stuff too expensive for the light use that my tools get. :)

I still don't see how you feel yourself in the position to be able to lecture me about my automotive or financial decisions.

Because I am just like you in the way that I'm incredibility indecisive when it comes to cars. I know from personal experience that few things can help you make a decision than a few "hard hitting" reality checks that you are being levelled with right now.

My advice would be to pull your head out of the sand and realize that we're not trying to annoy you. We are only trying to help based on the information you have provided.

What information have I provided?

I've said I want I want a DC2 and want to spend £3.5k, I've said that I know exactly what kind of condition the car will be in for the money I want to spend.

What more is there to add? Nothing you've said is "hard hitting", nor are they "reality checks", you aren't trying to help me at all, you are ignoring what I'm telling you, and instead telling me how much money I have to spend. Sorry, but last time I checked, I can see my bank balance, and you cannot :)

  • You will struggle to get a DC2 that is not a complete dog for your budget.
  • Factoring resale values for an old Honda is so miserly it is comical.
  • Not being able to justify an extra £1,500 for a car that you claim to really want is a little bit pathetic
Those are the sticking points thus far :).

So my mind is made up, I want something cheaper, more economical, more comfortable and generally more sensible.

Before the usual crowd start digging into my finances and motives, there are none than simply me wanting the above, I want to focus on more important things than owning a fast car.

I'll have no need for a fast car, so why would I want to waste my money on more fuel unnecessarily?

Just to re-iterate, I don't want/need a fast, sporty car.

So we've gone from having your mind 'made up' and being very clear you DONT want a sporty or fast car, to now actually wanting TWO 'sporty and fast' cars.

Thats some turnaround.

And you seem SUPRISED that every post you make these days brings up even more 'huh?'?

I'm not going to be buying a ropey car - for what I want it for, I do not need a mint car.

Resale value is a small factor yes, but not an overriding one, yet its the only thing you keep bringing back up?

No, I have a set amount of money I wish to spend - spending 43% more to buy a car that isn't necessarily any better, and is going to be more expensive in the long run (however insignificant) isn't something I want to do. The irony here is, if it was the other way around, Motors would be telling me how stupid I am to up my budget by 43% for a car that isn't any better.

I don't really need two fast cars, but after going over it for long enough, I've established that there really isn't a great deal of money to save by changing the Focus - which I explained several pages back. (Something which you told me you/OcUK have been telling me for a long time - apparently)

People change their minds, and situations change, too, which is another factor.

Like I said earlier, I didn't know being indecisive was such a big deal.

For £3500 you will. It's unlikely the £3500 Teg market is awash with tatty looking rusty Tegs which are mechanically awesome and thus suitable for your needs, is it? It's the sediment at the bottom of the pond. This is never a good place to buy a car, even less when the car is 10-15 years old.

Because it's indicative of your thought process. A thought process at odds with the image of being loaded you wish to portray on this forum.

Yes, of course, because every 'What £5k Teg' thread is full of people encouraging the OP to buy a complete shed instead and save 1500 quid.

Based on your posts on here your situation has now changed approximately 23 times in the past year*. Therefore as your situation is clearly unstable, maybe two fast cars isnt clever ;)

* Before you call this a lie, I'm exagerating to make a point ;)

Complete speculation - I know of at least one that was sold locally within budget and suitable for my needs - extend the search area to the rest of the country, and the chances of finding one in acceptable* mechanical condition for £3.5k are quite high.

*This doesn't mean perfect - I accept there are things that will need doing eventually.

I'm not loaded, nor have I ever pretended to be. If I was loaded, I wouldn't have ever considered chopping the ST in for a cheaper car. But I'm far from stretched in my finances as you keep trying to make out.

Yawn. Its not even an exaggeration, its simply inaccurate.

Edit: Uh oh, its gone quiet in here. Awaiting some out of context quotes from Fox.
