Sorry i have posted this in another thread, ut i think its been overlooked...

With this weeks ofer on DDR 3 is the below worth getting?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MY-092-OC
(OCZ 2GB DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz ) + GRID!

Coupled with a:

(Asus P5E3 Intel X38)

This is mainly to Crossfire at a later date, i have read a p45 at 8x8 is as good as 16x16 in all but benchmarks is that true?

Buying tomorrow...(already got the 4870 1GB from last weeks special)

Considering that offer, yes - its a good deal.

Personally, I would wait for Nehalem and the new boards then - but you are obviously purchasing sooner.

Don't know enough about mobo's to comment on that board.

Currently DDR3 is too expensive compared to maybe possible slight speed advantage with fastest (and most expensive) DDR3.

PCIe 2.0 doubles bandwidth so 8 lanes of PCIe v2 gives same bandwidth as full 16 lanes in original PCIe halving lanes doesn't form bottleneck.
(8 lane PCIe V1 started to be notable bottleneck)

Of course using PCIe 2.0 requires support from graphic card and all decently young cards have it:

Is there a release date for Nehalem yet?

Sorry for being a complete noob, but what's special about it?

Yes. I live under a rock.

It's the next generation of Intel processors, there isn't too much of a difference in games from the limited benchmarks that have surfaced.

It uses DDR3 in tri channel, and has scraped the use of a front side bus amoung other things :)

I would wait for next AMD with new Socket AM3 that will included DDR3 due this year and after xmas but I wait until 2010 when new Windows 7 is coming then I upgrade new hardwares and new OS... I keep my AM2 with DDR2 just now

Price for DDR3 will come down next 3-6 months - you know OCZ selling 8GB this OCUK for £117 as last year it was more than 500 quids so just watch for the price to come down and then buy one at cheaper price.

I might just build an X48 or even a P45 system with an overclocked wolfdale core and DDR2 ram. I guess the prices will come down once the X58 stuff hits the streets. If there isn't too much difference in performance with games I can't see it warranting the billions of pounds it will cost to build. Though I'm a noob.

I would agree with this statement :)
