Heya, as the title says I'm still running this stuff, however I need more :(

At the moment I've got 2x512mb Corsair Twin X with 2 3 3 6, now I'm looking for a cheap nasty upgrade that'll keep my computer gaming for atleast (if not more) another 6 months and with only 1 gig of RAM it's starting to take a bit of a hit.

Looking around you can 2x1gb 2 3 3 6 Twin X from competitors and the bay for about £50-80 which is ridiculous considering I could 4 gigs of DDR 2..

Sooo would I notice a major performance hit if I go for some slower CAS 3 DDR PC3200 like this?

Yeah I know it's not value for money, but don't want to buy into Socket 775 tech with Nehalem knocking round the corner.

Thanks a lot =)

i was in your exact situation 2 weeks ago. I ended up getting 2gig of corsair ram from an online e-tailer. The ram is the same crucial ram as seen here
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-092-CR&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=481&name=Crucial%202GB%20(2x1GB)%20PC3200%20CAS3%20184pin%20DDR%20Memory%20Dual%20Channel%20Kit%20(CT2KIT12864Z40B)

Worked well and now have 3 gig of ram. Company of Heros and COD4 have both seen noticeable improvements! You may see a slight, and i mean slight performance knock with CAS3 but im sure the extra 2gig would more that compensate!!!!

Hope that helped!

Ahh cheers, although doing a bit of searching managed to find a competitor doing new sticks of OCZ Platinum 2x1gb with 2 3 2 5 timings for £48 so will grab some of that =D

no worries, happy to help. You will definitely see an increase in performance, hopefully enough to keep you goin till nahalem!:D

I thought i'd post in here as i'm in the same boat.

I'm currently running on 1 gig (2x512) of Corsair 3200LLPT TwinX.

But recently I was given.. 1 gig (2x512) of Corsair 3200XLPRO ( has those flashing lights on top).

I thinking which is better to use?

I'm almost sure the 3200XLPRO RAM is newer as it was used for a socket 939 rig unlike my old stuff that was used in a socket 754. (4 years old)

My other question: - As i've only 3 x DIMMS on my Asus K8VSE Deluxe mobo, is it wise to put 512mb of either RAM and mix it up to get 1.5gig?

Really depends on the timing's think the twinx are 2-3-3-6 and the Pro are 2-3-2-6, there are faster sticks about if you want to buy it.

Regarding mixing, I'm not sure I would bother - and my mobo has 3 slots, but can only use two at 400 Mhz, and 3 with 333. So would read the manual before trying.

Am I guessing right that the 3200XLPRO is the faster?
