DDR2 in DDR3 slots

Will DDR2 memory still work in DDR3 slots ?

Or is it better to put DDR3 in them ?

Just use regular DDR in it, it will be faster than DDR3 due to the much better timings.

It won't. He was joking I think. I don't know of anyway you can use DDR2 in a DDR3 board (unless of coarse the board specifically suports both types...and there are a few that do I think)

No asfaik, the layout is different so it physically would not fit in the slot.

In all honesty if someone thinks a hammer and chisel are tools required for a pc build then they shouldn't be anywhere near a pc.

There are times however I have contemplated taking a hammer to a few old builds of mine, a very big one :mad:

Is there any realistic improvement in performance with DDR3 over DDR2 ?

I mean in terms of DVD encoding/burning and gaming ? or is it just numerical ?

No. If you aren't overclocking spend the extra £150 - £200 for 4GB DDR3 v 4GB DDR2 on a faster CPU (encoding) and or graphics card (gaming).
