Hi,

I recently purchased a new desktop(https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/desk...003jus?orgRef=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F) and trying to figure out memory speeds. ran aida64 and the first results were around 110ns. The RAM that I have is Samsung ddr5 5600 but by default was set to 4400then, after enabling xmp and setting speed to 5600 got better results around 90ns. in safe mode getting 67-70ns. I think it is still slow. are these speeds normal for ddr5? :)

Thanks

67-70ns is normal for that speed DDR5, your bios on that system is probably pretty much locked, so fine tuning timings is probably out of the question for you, I could be wrong, maybe you can fine tune things, its been decades since I brought a pre-built.

However, 90-110ns is bad, and as you are getting 67-70ns in safe mode, id say its probably all the bloatware bundled with pre-built systems like that slowing things down in the background, personally, if I was getting that, id get my hands on a copy of Windows 11 Pro, and wipe the system and start from scratch, just putting on what I need and use, but if you're not confident with that, then that could be more trouble than its worth, you've spent a lot of money there, if its performing as you hoped, then let sleeping dogs lie, synthetic benchmarks arnt always your friend.

I appreciate your response :) Bloatware is a good point. I'll probably delete everything and install a fresh copy of Windows 11.

Fortunately, compared to earlier BIOS versions, Lenovo has unlocked some of the BIOS settings.

it's been a while, this is my first PC in 15 years, I don't know anything about timings.

Do you have any timing knowledge? Do you think these timings are good?

Here is my current configuration:

changed speed to 6000

Tinkering and/or obsessing over memory timings is kind of pointless.

Try some real world tests... what do you want to accomplish?

if you are gaming, what's the delta between avearge and minimum frames in your fave game, V's the refresh rate and resolution of your monitor?

If doing other types of workload, how fast does the graphics render? how fast do 'X' other things take?

Don't obsess over tiny things, look at the big picture to understand what you want to achieve first, then maybe get hung up on memory timings.

I think it is still slow.

In what respect? low frame rate?

In order to have a solution, we must first have a problem to measure against.
