Dead Rising

yeah ive settled down into the saving scheme now,

im just playing through the story, not saving anyone, doing the side quests next time round

so im just standing in the control room till the main missions start :p

i really do feel like im playing the dawn of the dead film, and the gfx are really helping, when you look off the top of the roof you can see the whole town

btw do you find night time zombies harder and more abundant?

After 7pm they're meant to be more agile and lethal then during the day. No idea why. Then some muppet goes and cuts off the power in the mall!

I've had an ok time with the game. The control system is messing me up though. Whoever decided that the Start button on the controller should skip cutscenes needs to be shot. The intro where you fly over the town - I must have accidently skipped 5 times by accident as I tried to pause the game by pressing start....

I just can't get used to aiming with weapons. Firearms are totally useless, I can't aim them for starters, and they lack decent firepower. I encountered Adam the clown who I never killed, and then ran away from the 3 nutters in the jeep. I just can't seem to respond to close combat with these controls.

Still, got a long way to go and I'm loving the cutscenes, they're utterly gorgeous.

:Edited: Due to a very poor lappy ketboard making me do spelling mistaks.

I'm on my third start and I'm up to level 18 but I've yet to finish a story. I'd say for your first couple of runs just have fun, try to do as many case files as you can but don't get hung up on saving everyone as you just won't be 'good' (as in stats) enough.

My problem's been trying to do to much rather than just having a run around. I've promised myself I will finish this one.

PS Now I'm level 18 I can kill the convicts pretty easy each time now. Especially if I have a SMG :D

Was hoping my copy from HMV would get here today :( but it hasnt !

Anyone else waiting for there copy from HMV ?

I'm afraid I can't help you on that one, but all the bad reports about HMV not getting games to people on time, sometimes weeks later, I certainly won't be using them in the future.

I ordered Saints Row from hmv as I was away the w'end and didn't mind the wait. It had a release date of the Friday before last and I got it on the following Tuesday. This may give an indication of when you'll get it.

I also think I'm getting better as I somehow went from saving 1 person the 1st day to saving everyone this latest go through.

My biggest tip is

******** Spoiler ***********

Make sure you Kill Andy the Clown and rescue the maintenence worker (by stopping the ride). He opens up a short-cut back between Paradise Plaza and Wonderland Plaza which becomes invaluable for saving people.

Think you've hit the nail on the head there mate. Play it fun first then a bit more serious every other time. Takes a LOT of practice and patience this game.

Indeed, and as it is relatively quick to finish, I imagine most people will do it several times rather than doing it just the once and not playing it again. I've died all 3 times I've played it but I've loved it every time :D

im going to create a spare save on my memory card just so i can pick up and play when i feel like it, i though the game would become tiresome, but its highly addictive :)

Im finding it pretty tricky.. especially at night. The first boss Carlito is insanely hard to kill.. especially when you run out of pistol ammo.. Plus you have to run miles to get NPC's back safe until im asuming you unlock shortcuts later in the game..

i hated the 1st boss, just get 2 bottles of wine for health, and the uzi (from the same place as the demo)

hide under the bit where you can climb up (just behind the boxes) and take pot shots at him with the pistol, once he moves onto the otherside of the room just Uzi him

Had a quick spin on this last night and have to admit im not that impressed with it tbh. In fact the camera angles really annoy me...just cant seem to get the right angle/position and i always end up getting attacked....pretty **** poor game if im being honest but ill give it a few more days and see how i feel about it.
If i still dont like it then ill sell it or trade it in, only thing is i got the nice limited edition metal case as my copy :p.

Much prefer TDU over this tbqh...going to try Madden07 tonight as i didnt get a chance to play it last night.

If you speak to Brad he will give you another gun, just incase you run out of ammo.

You can go back to brad for more ammo mate. Carlito is a pain though.

I found him pretty easy.

New hint on killing Carlito

Second time through and made it even easier. When your in the warehouse jump on the boxes and at least one of them usually contains a stun gun. Grab it, then grab the smg from the plaza and some orange juice.

Now when your at the food court these two lots of boxes that allow you to climb up on to the roof part where Carlito is shooting from. Take the boxes on the right (when facing as if your coming in from the doors). Jump across the roofs. Then hide right on the corner. When carlito comes running down turn the corner and use the stun gun by pressing x. Keep it held until his health goes down and a cut scene occurs.
