Dead Rising

Longest I've spent on this game tonight, a good 2-3hrs which is the longest since I bought it last week!!

Just had a whole lot of fun with the excavator!! :D

This game is sick!! ;)

I have the Saint achievement! :D

Didn't think I would make it at one point. Although I rescued all 48 survivors, because I was trying to do all the case files, several story related characters didn't make it out, so when I got to the helipad I only had 49. But thankfully I did eventually get it after completing overtime mode straight afterwards.

Ah man congrats, that must have been a mission and a half! Today I managed to rescue 19 survivors with 14hrs left on the clock, so I think I need one more for an achievement iirc. Must have killed a good 10 odd survivors by accident when I got too excited with the katana/chainsaws in the paradise plaza :o

My next target is the karate one. Kill 1000 zombies bare handed. Should be easy too. I'll get me a health book that boosts health items effectiveness by 50% or so.

In north plaza ,theres an abandoned store that has a book that boosts health items by 100%, the door isn't locked just needs to be opened. I came across it randomly.

I tried that one yesterday. Started a new game and killed 1000+ zombies without even picking up a weapon and still didn't get the achievement.

I think if you use certain moves they dont count as 'Bare Handed'

Also, just finished overtime mode, the final boss was pretty intense like but I smaked him up good.

Hello people!
Im on my first play though and im halfway through the 2nd day and ive not missed any case files yet!
Whats the best thing to do because you cant do everything can you?
So is it easier to do your first run through doing the case files the 7 day one save all the hostages and kill the psyco's and not bother with the case files?

I have a few hours spare between case files and was looking through the achievement list for something easy to do and found the 'Strike' achievement for sending at least 10 zombies flying with bowling balls. I tried killing 10 zombies with the ball and also tried bowling 10 over with secondary attack and nothing happened?! What do you have to do for this one?

Im not to sure with this bowling ball one m8 cos ive been trying it, i think u just throw the bowling ball and have to get 10 in a row i.e. in 1 strike or 10 altogether. I cant get 10 in 1 throw tho so i think it might be altogether. Same as the costume achievement think you can do any 10 mask things at any point not altogether to get it.

Strike!
TYPE: 1 Play REQ: Send at least 10 zombies flying with bowling balls.

Grab a bowling ball off the wall on the 2nd floor of the sporting goods store in Paradise Plaza (across from Columbian Roast masters). Head to Leisure Park and go to the food court entrance where you will probably see 15-20 zombies lined up. Stand to the side of that group and line up a decent shot. You should be able to get this on your first or second try.

Thats how its done :)

I too got back with the medicine too late and therefore had to start over :(

Re-started on level 10 though, didn't take me long to get case 1 done.

After trying at the Paradise Plaza entrance and lots of other places for ages I moved to the Food Court entrance as above and did it first time!

i was having real probs doing the strike achievement, so i lifted 3 bowling balls and ran all the way to the underground carpark.

done it on the 1st attempt lol :D

quick question for you guys.

i was playing last nite and i just did the last part of the first case, but i have been messing around saving ppl and doing other scoop thingys.

anyways after i did the last part of case one i only had 23 hours left, and it said i failed the other case files, and it pretty much just quit the game for me.

does this mean i have to start again from scratch cause i haven't followed the case files to the timer?

i just forgot about the timer and was having to much fun saving ppl and getting kills.

oh yeah and how do u kill them prison morons in the jeep cause i can't save any1 at the security room across the outdoor bit cause they keep running them over.

U did the same as me m8 lol u gotta do it by 22nd or something by 10pm... I took too long and i missed the last case file cause of it! I started again as i couldnt do it :(

The convicts, get the katana and stand in front of a tree they crash into it and take ages to get out, shoot guy on back then slash the other guys or nick the gun on back and kill them with that they was quite easy when ya know how.

You keep your level when you restart. You have to FIND the pp stickers. :D

Your leveling up is cumalitive through out each game.

IMO the best way to level up is to repeate case 1 until you can do the case and get all the scoops in that period without much issue (I think its about level 12-15 that thes game gets better.)

When playing through properly for the first time:

Try to get the case files done, make them your pritoriy.

Keep an eye on Scoop time. If it is in the blue, grab any scoops you can. A lot of scoops are close together so get as many people as you can. You do not have to save these people, just get them to follow you. Its easy PP.

If you have the time and patience then try to get as many survivours back. They gie you good PP.

Fight The Clown This opens up the Chainsaw, and the short cut, both are invalable for saveing time and keeping you alive. Get the 3 books to get the Chainsaws life extended - This actually saves you slots and time looking for weapons.

When ever you go through Wonderland. Get a new chainsaw. I never carry more than 2 around (and rarely carred 2) I always keep the newest one.

CArry (at least) one mixture on you. they give you a lot of health for one slot. Zombait is probably not a good idea.

Learn the fastest ways around the map. If a vehicle is made available to you use it. They get you around fast. Shopping trollys make you run faster.

Choosing the mission on your watch menu will bring up an arrow. Remember it points the direct route so often the toilet warp is faster.

Always carry at least one fully loaded Uzi you never know when you might need it.

The mini chainsaw rocks and killes everything in a few swipes.

Arm your survivours with good weapons (Uzis, mini chainsaws, katanas baseball bats sledgehammers). This will keep them alive and help you get them from a-b faster.

Clear a route for your survivours, if you have any that need you to hold hand or carry them, do so, it is the equivilent of using untouchable (zombies cant grab you. Tak these people (slowest first) to a point. Tell all you other survivours to go to that point and then run back creating a path for them. Grab the next survivour that needs carrying and take them to your checkpoint. Rince Repeat until its armed survivours and then cut a huge path for them.

Good guide Krono. Here are my thoughts:

Definately get a couple of clown chainsaws and three-book combos. This is not really easy at first when you only have a few slots but as you level up it becomes easier. Use them to clear a path for your suvivors as you go. Do keep a single hit weapon like the lead pipe (NOT the baseball bat) to smack any zombies that grab survivors. DONT use the chainsaw as you can easily kill your survivors or bring their health down so low that they are easy pickings. You might consider bringing a queen bee for emergencies when survivors are surrounded by a horde. The chainsaws are VERY powerful. They can take out almost all of the psycos with three or four hits. It may sound cheap but if you want to do a 50 survivor run or some other achievement they are essential to stay within the time limit and not spend hours taking on psycos. The only two exceptions to this I can think of at the moment are Isabella on her motorbike and the convicts. Isabella is too fast for a swipe. Get up high and shot her with sniper rounds. The convicts humvee is too strong and high up for your chainsaws to connect. So you are on your own with them! If you only carry one at any one time, swap it out with a new one as you pass through Wonderland plaza so you don't get caught short.

ALWAYS get the toilet shortcut. If you fail the mission to get Greg to open it, reload from save. Going through the park all the time will drive you insane.

Give your survivors weapons, but be sensible. The clown chainsaw or the shotgun will get you killed double quick.

When you get a cutscene it resets any orders given to your survivors. So if you told them to hide in the toilets while you go attack a psyco, when the cutscene ends they'll leave the toilet and try and find you. The game is a little forgiving and they seem to survive for a while, but be careful as they approach so neither you nor the psyco ends up killing them.
