Dead Rising

cheers NokkonWud

Seeing Resident Evil 5 is planned for the 360... I'd might well buy myself one, seeing I can't afford £1.2billion for a PS3 :)

Is this game anything like Resident Evil... i.e. Survival Horror sorta game? Or is it just a simple hack and slash jobbie, where you endlessly press the attack button over and over.

Are there any quiet moments in the game, that give that eerie feeling? where you are wandering round trying to find items, waiting to be pounced on my zombies?

From the reviews I get it as being a hack and slash, but Id like to ask "real" people who have played it... thats where you guys fit in :)

p.s. I've nto got a 360... yet, just considering one.

It's action game, in so much you attack, defend, move in real time and there are 8+ special moves from spinning a zombie round to throwing one over your shoulder. There are boss fights and a lot of weapons to play with from guns, swords, baseball bats, park benches, lawn mowers to CDs and Coke Cans.

It's an adventure game, in so much there's a central story line, lots of side quests (people to save and requests to fulfill). There's photo's to take, food to eat (and mix together), clothes to try on, vehicles to drive and a whole 'mall' to interact with.

It's a strategy game, in so much as you've only got a certain amount of time to fit everything and you have to play several times to figure out the best strategies.

It's a rpg, in that you have stats that save between games including level, attack strength and health.

Imo this mix is what makes the game truly unique. I can honestly say I've never played a game quite like it; in a time of sequels and rehashed formula games it's fantastic to see something new emerge.

As Nokkon says, it's not scary per se, more 'zombie horror' and pays genuine homage to the atmosphere of Romero's original Dawn of the Dead.

If you want eerie there's always 'Project Zero 2' which has just become backwards compatible and Condemned, which can be had very cheaply now.

Right now I'm rating this game a strong 3rd in my all time 360 games so far. Dead Rising in so many areas is simply outstanding and I just can't stop playing it over and over. It reminds me of Mafia on the PC which I played constantly despite finishing the thing.

Can't wait for a sequel though, need to see more of isabella :D

Ive played thru it twice, 1st time attempting to do case files but messed them up so couldnt finish it, Second time i just got my lvl up but still only at 35. Now on my third go and this time ill concentrate on all the case files. It is very addictive tho theres a lot to do and some of the map i hadnt even explored.

Anyone got the PP achievement ? I cant photograph the tower in the park :(

I have, actually got them all bar 3. (boast over ;))

There quite tricky and took me a while to figure them out. The trick is you have to take the pictures from a distance.

There are 3 PP stickers on 3 of the clock faces.

Take one from the roof of the picnic area
Take one from the middle of the crossroad in the garden type area near North Plaza
Take one from the pond, (the end closest towards the Food Hall Entrance)

Hope this helps

I don't like the sound of the time limit? I hate being forced to do sumin in a certain time... feel you have to rush through things, and there is a time limit of 72 hours right? What happens after then? If you haven't done what you gotta do? Dead?

The time limit applies to ingame cases/missions - they don't sound good at all I agree but they are needed or the game becomes so boring as you can do everything in one sitting.

The best bit about this game is that you can't finish it in one sitting. After 72hrs when you await your pickup you can go right to the start and do certain missions that you missed as well as more exploration. This game is huge.

Technically there is no time limit at all, but the main story thread requires you to be certain places at certain times. Now, the only real reason you'll ever miss these is when you get side tracked, at lower levels, with rescuing survivors. But even then you don't 'lose' or 'die'. You may have 'failed' the main story line but you can still get 'rescued', I won't say much more as I don't want to spoil it but the only way to 'die' is to 'die', and you can always reload. There are about 7 endings and ok 1 is perfect but it's not hard to achieve if you don't deviate too much.

Where people go wrong too early is trying to do the main story and also saving EVERYONE!

Time does play it's part and I generally prefer a game without strict time limits but in the context of what they've tried to achieve it's necessary.

Well, i thought like that tbh and was quite weary of the game after i bought it. But if you don't stop and leave frank standing still for 10 minutes whilst you go and get a cuppa you'll be fine. The timelimits really aren't THAT hard to keep to, especially if you're sticking to the cases. The reall challenge comes when you have complete scoops whilst you're completing cases - that's when the time limit gets annoying.

After 72 hour mode, there is overtime mode (will take you about 1 hr 30 mins, where you get the "true" ending) and infinite mode, that is really annoying as you can't save (?????????) and you health keeps decreasing :/

Im struggling going through the game at such a low level trying to do the case's.

Is it a good idea to give up doing the cases now, and just start exploring the mall/killing zombies etc till the heli comes. Then start again doing the case's after that?

You can't obviously do everything during your first shot through the game. As mentioned somewhere above, this is a mistake everyone does first time round.

Once your 72hrs are over, you can replay the game from your last level so work on getting some achievements if thats your thing, as well as getting lotsa PP to level up. Also spend time learning the layout of the mall (critical) and where most of the survivors are.

Lastly, learn frank's special moves - they're so important! At lv50 I end up fighting all the nasties hand to hand now, much more fun :)

Had a quick blast this morning (damned postie woke me up :p), and didn't get very far before being killed :D

If I'm home early enough, I'll give it a good seeing to, tonight :)

You'll advance faster then you think. I hit 50 on my second go through the game when I decided to focus soley on case files. The third go through the game was to focus on getting as much survivors as possible (managed 40 before I accidently killed a few :o )

Wait till the special ops arrive, thats all I'll say :)

Wait till you some scoop info on a survivor called jennifer - who is in Paradise plaza in a box with loads of yellow coated weirdos around her. Once these appear (and they keep re-spawning) kill them as you get 500PP default for killing one and about 650PP when your carrying a specific book. Then go into the cinema to fight Sean (Once you get the call) and kill him and a load more. After that you get to save 6 survivors from one room and kill a ton more yellow coats. It's easy to escort the survivors here too as they are very close to the security room - just make sure you kill absolutely everything in theoir way as paradise plaza is packed full of zombies at this time.

Anyways, that should get you up a fair few levels considoring where you are right now. But personally, if i was you i'd use my zombie genocide route as you'll get several achievements whilst building your level (see above).

Get in a car in the maintenance tunnel, watch your kill count soar!

You'll get achievements for - 1000 kills (20 pts), 10,000 (20 pts), 53k points (20 pts), lvl max (20 pts), stunt rider (20 pts), stunt driver (20 pts), 3 day survivor (20 pts), group photo (20 pts), marathon runner (should do, 20 pts) and karate champ (20 pts - best wait till you get lvl 45 plus). All this is from the maintanance tunnels :)

If you kill zombies efficienty you should a few hours to kill when the special forces arrive. Here you can get the following easily:

perfect gunner (20 pts) - use the cheap ass method, no shame, legendry soldier (20 pts), Bullet point (20 pts), hella copter (20 pts).

That's 280 points even before you saved one survivor :) Oh yer, if you do the genocide thing the first time around, when you coem to play the game when you're following case files you'll have the real megaman blaster (makes things VERY easy).

EDIT: also either outdoorsman (20 pts) or indoorsman (20 pts) - not sure if the maintance tunnels are indoors out or out :)

It's hack-n-slash, but not like your general button masher (i.e. Ninty-Nine Nights). It has a purpose, hundreds of weapons. I spend most of my time weaving between characters... which isn't always easy. EGM reported that upto 800 characters can be onscreen at once.

No, there are no eerie moments ala Resident Evil so if you're looking for a Survival Horror fix you won't get it here (I'd recommend Condemned for it though).

It's not a boring, monotonous game like your regular button masher, you have to rescue people (upto over 50) and take photo's (your character is a photo-journalist). It's brilliant. It's probably worth getting an Xbox360 for, but if not, there are plenty of other great games too.

I'd also have the agree that n3 is all buton mashing. Maybe for the first character, inphyyyyyyyyyy, possibly, but for the others you do need to certain moves to beat bosses efficiently. E.g. try button button mashing on the last boss in inphyyys secret mission and you get no where. You need to use the AA, Y thing with your orb bar full. Anyways, that was totally off topic, so apologies. :)

To level up really fast, just wait until the special ops arrive towards the end of the game.

Exit the security room as you do, and on the roof go through the left door which leads to the upper warehouse section where you can walk along the top of the shelves. Once you enter the warehouse stay on the top of the shelves and you'll see quite a few special ops walking around below - have a ranged weap and kill them all - they can't fire back at you because they cannot fire upwards :p

Once they're all wiped out (ultra easy) then pick up ALL their uber rifles, and climb up the shelves again to the top, then exit the warehouse through the main door you came in, and re-enter. The special ops will have spawned in the warehouse again :p

Each special op = 5000pp :D
