Dead Rising

This thread has just made up my mind as to which of the multitude of games sitting on my shelf I should get into next.

Was thinking maybe Oblivion... Rainbow Six... Test Drive.. but no, gonna go with Dead Rising! Had it since I got my 360, played for a bit but just found it overwhelming as in there just seemed to be so much to do at the same time. Have always intended on giving it a proper go though at some point.

BTW, I don't see what the problem is with the save system - if you die in any game, you can restart from your last save or start a new game. Surely Dead Rising is exactly the same with the exception you can start a new game with your stats intact...?

hey dokko, thanks for buying the game from me ;) trust me it gets quite a bit better once you level up, i also found it a huge learning curve, and hated the save system, but through perceverance i managed to complete it and got myself upto level 26, thats when you inherited it :)

there was an 'official' dead rising thread, it had a lot of useful hints tips and pointers, like how to rack up mountains of kills so as to level up, or unlock achievments.

edit: just out of interest how are the other two going? i found when i reached the jungle in PDZ the difficulty ramped up a fair whack. blazing angels ok?

Hi mate, haven't had chance to play on em yet, been busy most of the day, and DR took the 1st place of play.

I'm sure they'll be good, i've updated PDZ, shame DR & BA didn't have updates when i stuck em in, i like to see developers adding to their work, games are very rarely complete when released.

Really love this game and the save system actually means you have some value to your characters life which is one of my fav things about it. Replay value is also high due to all the endings and the different people to save etc.

Oh and as for that photographer boy, I just straight took a shovel to his face and never had to deal with him. Its a mall full of zombies I dont need **** in my way. :p

Dead Rising is my fave 360 game so far.

At first it's daunting because your level is so low - you have sod all hp and no decent moves - and because you don't know the mall. Once you get familiar with your surroundings and realise that it doesn't matter if you completely balls up missions, things become a whole lot more fun.

First i'd suggest finding a few save spots - you should start again from these when you die/load - and exploring the place. Forget missions at first if you feel like it (infact i'd suggest this for the first play) - looking for good weapons, books, cool cothes, food/drink, shortcuts etc is both more fun and more productive. Remember, Dead Rising has been designed from the ground up to be completed multiple times - each visit arming you with more strength and knowledge of what to do and and where to go. The most important part is to do whatever you like - if you've met someone you find annoying, then by all means kill the mofo, or feed him to the zombies. On my second play through I killed every innocent in the game (and much fun it was). Before you know it you'll be rescuing groups of 4 or 5 survivors at a time, arming them to the teeth and then taking it to the zombie horde on masse - cutting paths from safe spot to safe spot, creating barricades, going out for supplies etc.

I think I finished the game 3 or 4 times in total, maybe more, and each time was fun in a different way - starting as very weak and clueless and ending up super hard and clinically running through the missions. If I could change one thing about Dead Rising it'd be the option to turn that bloody phone off. Otherwise it was a complete breath of fresh air (mixed with blood and flying body parts :))

Right, everyone seems of the same opinion is that i dont take it too seriously and mess about for a few hours leveling up, finding out the game ans where everything is.

I've actually started to enjoy it a bit more since going into that mindset, however, i'm stunned at how they've got away with the vertical tearing.

i remember a few people commenting on this tearing in dead rising...

I must have a different console, cos there's never been any tearing on my version  looks fantastic

Odd, i didn't notice any tearing with Dead Rising and i'm usually very prone. It must vary from tv to tv.

Tried the demo on a:

Panasonic 32" CRT PL10 (???)

Samsung 32" LCD 32R74BDX

Mirai 32" LCD DTL-632V200

Acer 19" TFT 1916W

All had the same problem.

Now tried the full game on my new Samsung 22" TFT 226BW (A panel) and that also tears.

Its really bad tearing as well, ruins the whole look of the game.

:(

No problems here on an Asus 19" Wide TFT or a 37" Toshiba HD TV. Must be TV to TV  or I am just not sensitive to it.

As Bruce said it could be my console.

No way of checking that though.

are you sure there was no update to download for it? i remember way back people saying it was to fix the minascule text (can you believe they only tested it for HDTV's? i didnt know what the **** i was supposed to be doing half the time) and to sort out some of the tearing...maybe they never got round to it.

It went into the game without update, PDZ updated, Blazing Angels didn't, FEAR didn't the other day, i think Crackdown did.

Unless there is an in game update, but i think most are trigged automatically 1st time at start up.

I also had no tearing on my 32" Toshiba LCD. I was connected via component though and I remember everyone who had a problem had it with VGA.

Sounds about right, but they'll happily make a sequel and expect everyone to buy it! (and they probably will)

I've tried Component on everything bar the TFT's as i was having the same problem with SC:DA, the demo of this and that game were the testers.

God knows, but i am settling in a bit better with the game, 1st thoughts were horrific, if i were to score it would have been 30%!

But this thread has put me at ease and my concerns are drifting away, cant wait till heroes ends and i think ill have another bash :D
