Dead Space 2 .

On reflection, it isn't as good as DS1. There are a load of improvements (the voice acting, Isaac actually talking, the zero grav environments) but there are also quite a few bits that don't work (most notably the ghost Nicole segments were never remotely scary to me). The biggest gripe I had was that the atmosphere of the first game just seemed to be lacking this time around.

DS1 devolved into a Resi 5 style shooter at times, but for the most part there was a genuine sense of dread pervading it. I just didn't get that in part 2, with the exception of chapter 10 which is rather unsurprising given its setting. I like that they tried to go for slightly more open environments in part 2, but really the claustrophobic setting was a huge part of what made DS1 so tense. The wider brighter atmosphere of DS2 erodes that considerably.

Tip for anyone playing the dlc on Zealot.. Retrieve all the nodes from the plasma rifle and fully upgrade your flamethrower as nothing will get close to you!

I'm about 75% of the way through and have only been hit a handful of times :D

Just started this on Hardcore last night and dear lord its hard!

I had to save in Chapter 3 due to picking the misses up but I'm gonna try to get to Chapter 11 on Wednesday..

After getting bored with Crysis 2, i thought I'd try Dead space 2, and glad I did, what a fantastic game. Great graphics, unbelievable music and a very decent game, 7 levels in, class :D

Just completed DS2.

Plasma cutter is useless in this game as there are more hordes of enemies and even individually they move about faster. Stasis is a lot more relied upon hence it being inbuilt into the suit rather than a costly consumable.
Most satisfying weapon for me so far has been the cutter.

Its a shame about the inadequacy of the plasma cutter as the premise of the original was that you are an engineer, not a space marine and so not trained in use of conventional military weapons.
I'm very happy they changed the gameplay in that you don't have to keep retracing your steps back and forth around the same rooms and corridors of DS1 but there are a lot less puzzles, challenges, or traps this time around, (no sub minigames ftl)and very few new monster alien species. The main four being the annoying acid vomiter, the exploding acid globabies, the screeching ostriches, and the packs of tearaway kiddies. No new bosses either, the rhino morph being easier to kill than regular necros too.

As mentioned previously ghostNicole is not scary and there are very few moments throughout that cause any.
