Dead Space 3 - Thread

I took the plunge and bought this... After slating it, figured the micro transactions are pointless as I will only play solo...

It's actually pretty gripping! I have played 1 and 2, now I'm in it for the store, I have forced my mind to accept this won't have the same atmosphere in it as the first. But as I said, I like the dead space story, watched the cartoons. So know where all this fits in and I am enjoying it!

One part that did scare me so far is the very first guys, the first guy climbing out the door. I did not expect that! Then the usual happened... Now nothing is scarey. Lot's of noise, no atmosphere at all.

Who here remembers the first one, in the huge open transport area. Total silence with a few knocks here and there... That had atmosphere.
 
Can you go back and complete the cooperative mission a few hours into the game or will it be gone when I proceed with the story??
 
I'm about 3/4 of the way through now and i think I may regret not modifying/creating new weapons and just using the blueprinted ones as I am faced with hoards of enemies that I can't see off easily with my pulse rifle and trusty plasma cutter.

Any suggestions for weapons I should be looking to build?

Decided to give this game another go as I have no other games to play and am bored :p and I have got a bit further in and it has got better! Still many things I dislike about it, which ruin what the original dead space was about i.e. atmosphere and creating tension that actually made you want to run all the way back to where there was light :p :o

Just too predictable what is going to happen, where they're going to come from, the music etc.

Still don't like how they throw loads of enemies at you (seems they have slowed down the encounters though).

Also have to admit that the micro transactions really aren't a problem either. Currently just using an upgraded plasma cutter and machine gun.

Gameplay wise, it is enjoyable enough.

Graphics are actually good all round once you apply the sweetfx config, great lighting and shadows and with the sweetfx config, things are sharp and have detail to them.

So I recommend to keep playing till you get to 20% progression as that is where it gets a better. IMO not worth any more than £20 though.



However, I am now on the part where you are fighting soldiers.......... :/
 
Agree majorly on the predictability. The vents are too obvious. They should mix it up a bit and have them coming from over railings, through walls, falling from above and stuff.

Weapon 1: Elite frame - Serious damage assault rifle + rocket launcher with no self damage. this is your far away weapon.

Over: Military Engine + Rail accelerator (I think it's this - makes it an assault rifle - not the spread tip) + Damage Support
Under: Survey Charge + directed suspension field + Safety Guard
Fill with damage, enough +clips to get 2 rockets, a couple of reload.

Weapon 2: Elite Frame - Your close quarters boomer.

Over: Military Engine + Conic disp. + Whatever attachment
Under: Rip Core + Default tip (suspended blade) + acid bath
Fill with dmg, fire rate and some clip/reload. Use stasis on the bad guys then saw their arms off. if they start waking up, shotgun then.

Weapon 1 will suffice for larger things, the times you get swarmed, 2 will see you through. If you get jumped with gun 1, rocket your feet.

With gun one, no damage support, ammo box instead, then you end up with 4 ammo on the rocket which gives you obviously a lot less reloading and makes it awesome, better than a little damage upgrade(I do hate with a passion games that refuse to give you hard numbers for this kinda stuff, especially as damage appears to go well beyond what the bars show).

Overall enjoyed the game, not brilliant, decent enough story is frequently stupid though, the ending is so mind bogglingly stupid and badly written I almost couldn't be arsed to play the final few minutes.

Weapons are a bit meh in this game in so far as, its a bit too easy to work out what is best, and they don't throw enough tungsten at you to really play around with guns and build tips, then later on in the game you pick up multiple everything but by which point you've pretty much set yourself up with weapons you like. Basically if resources were better spread out you'd have more fun experimenting between weapons, though I haven't tried, if you keep inventory on second play through which I'm under the impression you do, that may work better, but I really dislike games designed only to be great on a second play through, its lazy.

I like a lot of the idea's in the game, but overall its a bit lazy and predictable, and really too long for a limited range of enemies. Too many games are doing this lately, games need some kind of progression, it works better. Old school Doom style, you get new weapons that are better, while facing tougher enemies, where the hell did that mechanic go.

So many games these days let the player get better and better guns, or upgrades to health, damage, powers, while the enemies are the same start to finish, so its just painfully easy by half way through the game.

DS3 had the extra issue of not even being difficult at the beginning. I didn't die once from enemies, none from quick time events(which are all pathetic, essentially enemies do damage, but them stop damaging you to start a quick time event which don't hurt you :( ), a few from random scripted events in which it was unclear what you had to do. It was FAR to easier throughout, with so many health packs and no really difficult fights in the whole game.

Not likely considering the ***** left Isaac to die. I'm sure if they really wanted to they could work it so that he hijacked another ship at the end.
