Dead Space 3 - Thread

I have just had a quick blast on this game, and I like the way it progresses on from the previous games. Its moving in a different direction from the original games, and I like its new approach as it expends out and the story line is growing into what could be a great series with a few more games being released.

I like the free Mass Effect 3 suit you get, looks way cool. ;)

Just starting playing and have nothing to say but "meh".

It's certainly not a bad game by any stretch, it's exciting and the mechanics are still solid and it looks "pretty good".

Unfortunately it does not feel like a Dead Space game, too many NPC's, too much talking and wandering around brightly lit areas, also far too many big set pieces. I don't get scared by games, DS1/2 didn't "scare" me, however they were tense, nerve racking and were able to keep me on edge for the entire game, DS3 just doesn't. There is no feeling of isolation, of being completely and utterly alone in a horrifying environment. In short the game is far too hollywood.

So yeah, Dead Space is dead for me.

I'll play co-op but want to finish it first. :p

I tried this in 3D with the Helix mod....those guys are right looks damn brilliant but what depth are people using for 3D in this? i find 50-60% the best for my eyes.(BF3 i can use max depth fine and looks amazing)

U - key switches (cycle) depth presets (3 variants) Im using 3
Note: Default convergence is too high for start menu (use U key).

Holding Mouse 2 key activate low separation preset (for good aiming from the gun) I adjusted this down slightly from his default setting.

Good god the more I play this game the more I'm beginning to resent it, I just walked through a door and had Isaac say over the radio with no irony "Hey gang (he may not have said gang) you can use your kinesis module to kill zenomorphs, here's a video of a particularly cool video I found in the last game" and proceed to play said video on the screen in its fullness.

After that particularly cringe worthy event I went on to play a little game involving matching boxes so they fit together for some unknown reason because they were randomly strewn on a tram track in an order which allowed this.

Not stopping there the game then decided to throw in the regenerating Zeno's with no introduction, only to then run me into a "please wait for the elevator whilst we throw enemies at you" event in a tiny enclosed room where they threw in ANOTHER regenerator for me to play with.Apparently the devs thought that butchering one of the best sections of the first game for a cheap throw away set piece was justifiable.

I don't know what the hell the developers were thinking when they made this game but I'm quickly running out of reasons to like it. This constant succession of gimmicky mini games and cynical Hollywood set pieces is starting to get on my bloody nerves.

Ah well, onwards with the adventures of Isaac Clark and the Scooby Gang....

Yeah the constant attacks and flood of enemies is getting annoying, wait till you get a bit further in the game, even worse than the part you are on currently :(

Game is definitely designed around coop.

Non-player characters, i.e the bunch of useless lay abouts you spend most of your time taking orders from and who never actually DO anything on their own.

Eh, not that much more than in Dead Space.

Sure there are some more survivors initially, but the main story beat characters really only totals 3 (Ellie, Norton and Carver) plus your antagonist Danik.

Yeah that is a good point. I don't know if I would say the entire game is designed around coop, but some of the encounters need to be toned down a little while playing single player.

I've yet to come across a situation where this has become too frustrating and so far I've managed to control the packs of enemies. Currently on chapter 14 or 15, so that might change as I progress on.

Haha, yeah that was a bit awkward. But completely forgettable in the grand scheme of things.

I think the problem with it is the timing. It is a tutorial moment several hours into the game. That is what made it stand out.

So I just fought a Giant Enemy Crab and am now apparently playing Sci-Fi CoD because some ****** just shot me with an RPG at point blank range.

**** this game, I'm done.

Oh and anyone else playing on Hard and wonder where the devs got the "resources are scarce" thing from? I've yet to get close to running out of med kits/ammo/stasis packs, do they just mean the stupid upgrade materials I couldn't give a toss about because the Plasma Cutter is still the best gun in the game? On top of that the only times I've died so far are to stupid quick time events.

I stopped reading at xenomorphs. No Dead Space fan could make that mistake

I stopped reading at xenomorphs.

Sorry made that post just after reading through the Colonial Marine thread, I had waddling OAP aliens on the brain. I would probably consider myself one of DS1/2's biggest fans, DS1 particularly is a masterpiece.
