Dead Space 3 - Thread

you coming on to me? lol

Tehe, whatever gave you that idea, treacle?

dead space was a straight port. fps are into the 200. 300's.

I doubt they are that high, not even Street Fighter IV can bench at over 300.

its games that are direct ports that have HDAO tessellation and stupidly un-optimized AA poorly implemented that require ridiculous specs.

It's a DX9 game, and DX9 can support SSAO and AA, it's 2013 so we'll most likely have what you just described, DX11 (volumetric, tessellation etc) and Hi-Rez textures take effort, SSAO and AA can easily be slapped on the game sadly. :( My reasoning:

Players will be able to toggle a few custom graphics options, but there won't be any support for things like DirectX 11 or high-resolution textures.

The only direct ports I can think of that run well are the Street Fighter games and Dead Space, the rest require hardware that is space age compared to the consoles, for nothing more than some sharper shadows and higher render resolutions.

What makes me laugh is that EA are going on about how Dead Space needs to sell X copies to be worthwhile or it'll lose them tons of money and they'll scrap the series, yet proceed to bog the game down with horrible micro transactions and don't bother to treat PC Gamers with respect, they'll definitely get horrible PC sales figures, but then they can always say 98% of us are Pirates like all the devs do when their glorified console crap flops on the PC.

Its pretty dumb supporting this series, 3 has just been butchered now it has co op etc, seems this one is a lot more action orientated and will lose its atmosphere & micro transactions for singleplayer? Just scummy business practice.

But if you enjoyed the other 2 games this news is not going to matter really as they were far from pc optimised. However in my opinion it's a cracking series. The bigger concern for me is the micro transactions but it's funny how "console port" is the big worry on here.
Yeah, I rolled my eyes at the console port worries for this series, and then was stunned to read the micro-transactions. Honestly, there's no place for that kind of thing in a full priced AAA game. Typical EA trying to milk every last drop of money.

Exactly, I think I read somewhere that ea want multiplayer and micro transactions of some kind in every game published by them now.

EA will eventually make their multiplayer titles like Battlefield pay-to-play with an initial software purchase like WoW imo.

Already being done with C&C Generals 2.

With regards to Dead Space 3 I hope it's not a case of grinding to build decent weapons. I read you can just buy them straight up rather than work for them. I have a few concerns about this game but console port is the least of them. The co op is hardly appealing as it will take away the scare factor. The previous games made me jump on several occasions and I hope this isn't taken away. Even though you can play single on your own it has no doubt been developed with co op in mind.

I don't mean f2p with micro transactions or something, I mean the same as it is now, you pay £40 for Battlefield 5 or whatever, but then after 7 days you have to start paying a subscription to keep access to the online features.

Ah I get you, sorry I miss read your original message.

They pretty much do that with map packs to an extent as people lap them up and if you don't you get left behind as your mates are on the new maps. Surely a pay to play fps would be a flop. Most people that buy cod for instance are quite casual gamers and wouldn't stump up a monthly fee.

Well a one time fee then or abilities to purchase guns and experience. Something as popular as a mofps like Battlefield has so much grinded content. I think they'd sell keys to vehicles, like 25p buys you a Tank key that gives you the ability to drive tanks for a day, or a single game, probably just one game. :p Imagine if Activision for example could grind another ten or twenty quid out of most players, ontop of initial purchase and DLC. There's yet more milk to be had from the genre imo.

Hell no.

Maybe I'm similarly minded to the kind of people working at companies who think of stuff like this but I in no way think it's a good thing, It's just what I predict them doing at some point.

I absolutely love the first two, never have I played a game and constantly found myself saying "this is such a *****ng amazing game". Let's just hope they keep the intricacies that we've seen thus far, their attention to detail in each environment is astounding.

It's also 20 bucks off for pre-orders at... hmm just google

$20 credit pre-order

Played the PS3 demo of DS3 the other day, it was boring. If you liked DS2 you'll probably like DS3 because it's action-focused as opposed to Dead Space which relied on atmosphere and creepiness. Personally I was massively disappointed with DS2, it simply didn't have the atmosphere or attention to detail the first game had. DS3 has simply pushed the series even further away from that.
