Dead Space Is Awesome!!

Am really enjoying this game but it sort of leaves me wanting to huddle in a corner for a while after playing.

Now this stupid girl wants me to go and fix the comms receiver! Why can't I just stay here for a while, the enemies are all dead here, it's nice and safe.

haha, it does make you want to jump a bit...

i completed this a while ago well worth playing. Dont see the point of running through it a second time tho, i did the first level of extreme just to pick up the bonus armor. :)

Wow, I've not had such bad headaches from playing this type of game since FEAR. Brilliant though. Anyone know if unused nodes are carried into the next round? I've got loads hoarded up but don't really feel like spending them since I'm getting on fine without them(cept some doors of course)

edit: Just to rant, I think the lighting could be better, would greatly add to the atmosphere, also impressed by the size of the ship but the interior feels like a waste of metal sometimes

Was wondering when/if the thread for this game would resurface.

Been playing for a couple of weeks now. Currently on chapter 9, and like many I'm finding it pretty nervy gaming. I've only been playing in fairly short bursts (like 45-60 minutes) because my nerves get too frayed after that.

Perhaps I'm a wuss, though. I think it still manages to manipulate fear and tension really well for 7 hours plus gameplay.

Last time a game forced me to shorten my playing sessions like this to recover my composure was Thief 3 - and then only on the cradle level.

Good stuff.

Played and finished it, great game. However i think the way they did the weapons was poor. not enough money to buy any decent weapons.. then if you did buy a decent weapon you couldn't manage because of the lack of ammo. The Plasmacutter was the best all round weapon by far. I used the Plasmacutter throughout the whole game. Rather disappointing really, it's the first weapon you come across. Would have liked some choice in which weapon i used.

Rather poorly designed weapon system in my opinion.

Not true... I have the flame thrower, assault rifle and the wider version of the plasmacutter and i'm only on chapter 3. I usually always have ammo available for all of them without having to buy any.

If you play on the harder settings though, you get less ammo, and use more too, so you'll spend most of the time skint. I thought the line gun was cool, but some of the others sucked.

Got bored around level 9 and gave up, tis a good game with the difficulty cranked up.

In a nutshell, what's this game like? Crysis & Bioshock or more open like Oblivion or Far Cry 2?

If i had to pick one out of that list it'd be bioshock.

But if i could compare it to any game it would be resident evil but with event horizon stylings. Its a slow game with quite a few puzzles, combat is kind of clunky but deliberately so; this is one man up against horrible organisms, he isn't a super hero, he's just a scared guy. Because of this he isn't particularly fast or strong, he just uses tools that are at his disposal. On the higher difficulties you WILL die in one or two hits, ammo is short, money is rare and enemies are many, it's a true old school survival horror. The storyline, while basic is functional and the voice acting is top notch, see if you can tell which of the voice actors/model actors (they modelled all of the characters on the people that voiced them) appeared in a rather famous film a few years ago (hint: this is madness!!1). My only real criticisms are some of the most expensive weapons are useless namely the flamethrower and that the main character never speaks a word. Hate it when the protagonist is a mute.

Finally managed to complete this in insane difficulty, really good fun.

like bioshock, but nowhere near as good, and more boring.

I found bioshock incredibly boring after the 'plot twist', never even bothered finishing it, this however was one of the best games i played last year. Tis all a matter of opinion i guess.

My opinion seems to be much like yours m8, i found this far better than Bioshock.

Did i hear/read somewhere that there will be a follow up, which will include multiplayer? or was that just a heavenly dream?

The sequel to bioshock will feature multiplayer if that's what you mean.

A sequel for dead space is 'in the works' but no details have been given of its development.

There was a distinct lack of puzzles in this game, they were more like tasks. Hope the sequel has some proper puzzles like the old Resis have.

my god !
it just spins and spins and spins ! how do i stop spinning ?
pleeeease
have i just wasted 30 quid

fixed !!

just copied this off another forum, to solve spinning issues in the game

I believe the problem is caused by a secondary control device which the game is accepting input from. I use the Xbox Control Driver Plus on WinXP 64-bit and an old school Xbox controller. This works great for most games, however I want to play Deadspace with a mouse and keyboard. I kept having this issue initially where my character constantly was looking at his feet, if I was using the mouse to look up it would allow me to and things seemed fine. However, as soon as i quit moving the mouse opposite of the direction my feet were in, it immediately drags my view back down to my beautiful shoes. I noticed that if I held down the left analogue button it corrected the 'look down' effect. So I decided to disable all the axis's on my Xbox controller but the problem still persisted. This time it was looking up and to the left! Anyway... to make a long story short, the problem is easily solved by unpluggin whatever joystick, gamepad, steering wheel, or any other input device you can think of. Because for some retarded reason this game doesn't have a way to specifically choose 'gamepad' or 'mouse' like most games. It tries to be all 'smart' and ends up screwing up.

So I just unplugged my Xbox controller from the lil adapter that plugs into my USB port and it disappeared from the 'game controllers' menu under control panel. Everything works great now. I initially tried the V-sync thing but that was not a success. I set V-sync back to on in the game and 'application preferred' in my Nvidia drivers.

There's a file you can edit in My Documents to specifically address this issue, details are in the readme contained in the Main Dead Space directory.

There was a distinct lack of puzzles in this game, they were more like tasks. Hope the sequel has some proper puzzles like the old Resis have.

Indeed, my only real issue with the game as a whole was the linearity of it all.
