Dealing with setbacks

Great stress and horror on the mind changes it. Makes you different from people who live life trouble free in fluffy bunny world with lots rainbows where everyone is holding hands and singing we are the world.

As much as it pains me to give the guy any form of credit, it makes perfect sense.

Spot on.

Same principle I've lived my life with since I lost my hearing.

Sorry to hear (no pun intended) that man.

Nobody should think they're superman either - even Neitzsche eventually broke-down. Take your time, find your footing and look ahead. You'll have bad days that will feel like an eternity but deal with them when you need to - if that involves ranting away at people then do that. Be warey of pushing people away, but remember those that care will never run far.

I've been in and out of severe depression for about ten years now and at times it's really knocked me for six, but it's also made me who I am. I see the world differently from someone who chooses not to think, from someone who has had a 'lucky' life in that they've never been this miserable; they have no reason to be. Don't compare yourself to those less fortunate than yourself, or even try and compete with those better off - our brains don't really work that way - instead, just try and find positives in the moment. There is a lesson in everything, it's our job to find it.

You need to take a step back and assess the situation which can be extremely difficult.

Remember going down that path of questioning 'why it happened the way it did' and if 'you could do change the circumstances, how things would have panned out differently' lead to nowhere. It makes like a lot more difficult and this is a rut we all get stuck in.

It's your life, you will suffer and only you can change your own circumstances. Try to see a positive outcome if there is one, if there isn't accept it and move on.

It's life - we all hit unbearable obstacles, some more than others given your way of thinking.

I hope everything works for you. If you need anyone to chat to anonymously, there are a number of people here open to help :)

I don't mean to sound harsh here but is this a "look at me I have problems" post?

With out clarity no one on here can give any real advice apart from life goes on.

let me have my fun :(

Ok then, it hasn't made me stronger either although it did teach me a lesson

You're mentally stronger because of it, even if you feel weaker. You've had an experience few will have and hopefully have learnt things because of it. To be strong is to be strange - our experiences warp us.

I wouldn't have thought so . . everyone has problems. He's just asking how other people deal with setbacks.

I don't consider to be mentally stronger by it at all, it's not something I ever think of or look back to , I don't think it changed me one bit

Urgh, this forum is terrible for its pedants.

To the OP - I'd agree with the Gestapo lad, rational thought and a clear mind will always help.

It will, but the problem with that is that we are fundamentally still human and as such are plagued with emotion and the madness it brings. Emotion is irrational and we make sense of situations through our emotion. We are irrational at a base level, but if we can overcome the fog and cut through it; it makes things a lot easier.

Someone grieving after losing their partner for instance, is never going to be rational until the process begins to wane and emotion runs riot - hence why time is so important. Clarity won't always be there, but it's something that should always be striven for.

Anyway, I sound like I'm preaching. :p

What a beautifully crafted sentiment.
