Dear God No!!!!!!!!!!

Theyll give you a local i would imagine. Years ago i took a cricket ball to the tackle as i was stupid enough not to wear a box, in short i went to hospital and aside from the massive swelling and bruising i couldnt pee, they tried inserting a catheter but couldnt get one in due to a small swelling.

They gave me a local and bunged only what i can describe as a thin soldering iron and burst/ cauterized the swelling so i could pee.... Nothing like the smell of your own flesh burning and peeing blood........

No lasting damage done but definitely not something to think about very often.

Hope you're ok OP, my father had his prostate cancer op.3 weeks ago so i feel your concern

Good luck and hopefully it's not as serious as you are worried about. But if it is then don't worry about it too much as your health is far more important than someone looking at you down below. In 2011 I had testicular cancer and had so many people prod me, look at me and touch me down below that you soon couldn't care less.

Good luck.

I've had a Urethral swab once, it was'nt as much painful as uncomfortable. Its probably not as invasive as what you will have done but its a similar way in! Its better to suffer for a short while than to suffer longer in the long term.

All the best and good luck though! :)

Unfortunate that you know them, but it's their job and they will have done it hundreds of times.

I'm sure they'll have seen smaller.

I think I'd rather die than have things shoved up my pee pee hole.

It's less bad than it sounds. It's certainly not a fun day out (unless you have a strange medical fetish, I suppose) but it's not terrible.

I had the "do you mind if they observe?" thing, unsurprisingly. Seems to be par for the course for anything that might be embarrassing. I didn't care. They need to learn with real people. Illustrations only go so far for learning. Although I might find it rather more disconcerting if it was people I worked with, so I see where the OP's coming from.

Thanks for the kind words!

Phase 2 of the humiliation is now complete. I had an abdomen and renal tract ultrasound this afternoon. Normally this would be very straightforward but I was asked whether I would mind it being undertaken by a non-specialitist radiographer under supervision. Supervision in this case was both a consultant radiographer and a specialist. The experience ranged from amusing - when the radiographer under supervision was told that she shouldn't really have asked me to drop my trousers / underwear since everything would be taking place above the belt line - to painful when the blasted girl seemed to be trying to physically insert the probe into my kidneys rather than using its ultrasound wizardry.

Still, it went well and there are no obvious problems in the bladder or kidneys, although the cystoscopy will be a more important diagnostic.

So what's the next step then for you?

Recently went for a scan myself with ultrasound due to a lump on the veg, and they scanned my kidneys as well. The doc was very professional and put me right at ease.

Went to the GP last week due to a couple of unpleasant symptoms in the nether regions which, in conjunction with my father recently being diagnosed with prostate cancer, were causing me concern. He has referred me to see a urologist at Jersey General Hospital (where I'm a manager). A radiologist has just popped in to say I have an urgent ultrasound tomorrow. Just as she left my office I had a call from TCI to advise that I've been booked in for an urgent flexible tube cystoscopy (look it up) initially next Monday but I've had to rebook for the following Monday.

Not sure what is worrying me most from (a) the fact they both used the word urgent; or (b) that I now have a week to stew before a group of people I know and will have to continue see every week are going to stick a tube up my penis. :(

I was told something similar a couple of years ago. Like you I panicked but it was found to be a very enlarged prostate and I get checked every 6 months.
If you follow the same procedures as I had this is the first check, later will come a biopsy and more checks. As you have it in the family they will class checking as more urgent. The waiting is hell.

It will probably be a local you get for the tube.

Best of luck.

There are two types of cystoscopy - flexible tube and rigid tube. The former is just local anaesthetic and the latter you would have a general. I'm only having a flexible one so "will be able to watch" - not quite sure why they thought that would be a selling point . I've had the "digital examination" already which has pretty much counted out the prostate cancer side of things but prostatis remains possible (which is what I'm hoping for). But there are also a couple of nastier possibilities. Fingers crossed though!

At least your getting it all done soon Daniel, in regards to the tube its not that much of a bother. Heads the only tricky part ;) After its a bit sore but thats about it, depending on the size of the tube and such /wink it can be done with nothing or numbing cream let alone a local.

As the saying goes: Man up :)

Iv had one with the flexible tube and luckily everything came back okay a lump was found but it causes no danger and the healing time/pain vs realworld benefits arn't actually worth it if you think of lost time from work/pain etc but im just having regular scans done now 6 monthly and if it ever develops or changes the operation will be performed. I hope it goes all well for yourself just be calm about it atleast your man enough to do something about it and not leave it like most men would it seems :/ Let us know how it all goes!

Sorry if I've read it wrong but you Rearranged an urgent appointment for the following week?

If so what could be more urgent/important than your health?

The delay is effectively due to something my GP prescribed. They would rather I stopped taking it for a clear period prior to having the procedure and the next available slot was the following Monday.

I have to admit that when the GP mentioned the possibility of having a cystoscopy my reaction was to think of ways to try to delay it for as long as possible! To be honest, I was pretty much railroaded into the appointment rather than manning up and accepting it gratefully.

Its better to do it and get it out the way else u will sit there mulling over it and scare yourself silly.
