Dear lord, what have I done to deserve this?

I would make sure that the Bios is updated and also try and use only one stick of Ram when you install windows.
I had a similar issue but in my case it was the hard drive....
tried with one stick of ram, tried each stick individualy.
same errors each time.
tryed 2 hard disks,
same errors each time
tryed EACH DRIVE with each ram combo
same errors each time.

its odd that windows 2k pro installed without the same errors

I agree with the RAM posts, I have had this exact issue before, won't copy certain files when installing windows, tried a different cdrom and hdd before thinking it could be the ram, after replacing the ram it went through the install perfectly. :o

Had the same problem at work with a machine when re-building it. Tried all sorts to get it working as did my boss. We wrote the machine off and replaced it with a new one. We tried replacing the RAM and the HDD with what we had available at work, still refused to build either friom the network or disk.

I brought it home as my boss said i could have it for spare parts, put a spare HDD and my some RAM from my computer in it, worked fine!
Next day took it back to work said i got it working and he said i could keep it :D

From that i found it was the RAM so if you've got any spare lying about. Or even just buy some cheap RAM to test it with to rule it out.

no spair DDRII sadly
I'm gonna have to order my other pc soonish, just godda wait for the cheque.
so its down to, do I RMA the motherboard, ram and processor or wait for the cheque to arrive/clear and then order other pc and test parts?
former would be quicker, but latter would be cheaper.

Are there any other OcUK'ers in Cornwall that could lend you a hand on the DDR2 front? If I was fewer than 3000 miles away I'd let you borrow a stick for testing purposes.
I know you would dude!
don't worry, I'll order the parts this weekend and get it up and running next week.
its just annoying as I wanted to try out that new GPU folding over this weekend :(

mmm
hows this for a strange occurance
I've just tryed to install windows XP onto another PC using these CDs, and I get nearly exactly the same errors when installing (most of the same files).
these CDs where working, but I'm starting to think their not now!

does anyone have an img file for windows XP pro they could send my way? I've the CD keys/licences for them I just need the disk image!

Sounds like a media error.

The only other time that I've seen a similar thing was when my hard disk had linux and was formatted with ex3. Everytime I tried to install windows XP on the drive it came up with random errors. To solve it I donwloaded maxtor power tools and low level formatted my drive.

After your last post though it sounds like a media error.

please read a thread before replying
I'm checking this new CD out on another pc, if it installs ok on there but not on the new system then I'll know its not the CDs.
I've ditched the other older CDs just incase it was them.
