Death Note

The actor playing L doesn't have the sort of unique candour that L in the anime has.

I think it might work well enough for the Hollywood style, but fans of the original series may find it too forced going by the dialogue in the trailers.
 
Glad it's a series rather than a film. The Japanese films tried to cram too much into their 4 hours and given more time they can do the story justice....although no potato chip monologue, no deal!
 
I never finished the anime, just got put off by the 'animeness' of it all after a while, Japanese girls gasping with stupidly big eyes and making annoying squeaking noises. Really hope this can be good.

Soundtrack is being done by Makeup and Vanity Set as well so that should be amazing.
 
After reading the review It really should have been a reimagining or "inspired by" type set up. Just redoing the same story smacks of a waste of potential and a poor attempt at a cash grab. Rather than opening up Death Note to a wider audience, this effort is just going to be a passing foot note...
 
Know nothing and don't care about the origins of this but the film is a good quality riff on Final Destination 7/10
 
5/10, not a patch on the original live action. Very rushed and crammed in, none of the build up or tension. L in particular I thought was awful.

Main guy was tolerable but they didn't do well playing up his intelligence, different take on the girlfriend which was ok albeit a bit psycho. Willem Dafoe was the best thing and very well cast as well as his CGI.
 
They basically gave no room for the characters to breath, the addition of the girl to me felt weird straight off having watched the original, this should have been at least a 10 part series at least not a 90min movie.
 
It was ok in it's own right, apart from the names and 1 or 2 scenes this is far from the anime, I'd recommend anyone to watch the anime if they want to see the real Death Note story.
 
Yeah, it was ok as an alternative take on the original storyline, just a bit silly that he tells everything to Mia as soon as he meets her, but I guess hormones gonna hormone.
